GRIPE, Counter productive posts! Example: I just bought my Yorkie at a pet store and he has diarrhea....................ect. Answer that annoys me: Don't ever buy a dog from a pet store they come from puppy mills!!!...........................ect. Ok the answer is true but pointless!!! Once upon a time most of us didn't realize pet shop pups are a bad idea or even what a puppy mill was and alot of people still don't!! I wonder what the person who answers like that would have the asker do? Bring the puppy back! ya right! come on you know as well as I do you can't help falling in love. The asker is asking for help and is trying to do the right things now. So I think it would be a bad idea to make them feel bad instead of helping so they stop coming back and asking questions!! |
Good post! As I have said before, I continue to read from posters that you can come on here for help. That is exactly what we should be doing. Education is always a good thing, but if your baby is sick, you don't need a lecture, you need to know how to make him better. |
Agree. Puppy Mills & Neutering should be prominent stickies. |
:exclaim:I completely agree!!! :aimeeyork COCO :aimeeyork PEBBLES :aimeeyork TRIXIE |
I dont' think there is anything wrong with that as long as you follow it up with advice. Some people don't know that buying from a pet store is a bad idea and I think it is great to educate them on whatever you can. LIke when people say- my dog is throwing up- i feed purina. They want help on throwing up but i also suggest better food because purina is not good food and could be contributing to the throwing up. |
I agree and disagree. While a lecture wouldn't be appropriate, it is productive to explain the conditions in pet stores that could have caused/contributed to the illness so that appropriate treatments can be taken. They also must tell a vet that their pup is from a pet store or unknown breeder/ possible puppy mill, so that treatment can be appropriate. If you don't know that, you might not think to tell your vet. :( Just as it's important for a doctor to know that a child may have been in a neglectful or abusive/unsanitary environment, our vets need that information as well. |

I have learned so much from YT, but when someone just wants to press a point and does not answer the question posted, it is not helpful. You have done an excellent job of giving information and education in a manner that can be useful. Are you a teacher?:) |
Judy I agree!!! I have answered posts in just that way! I just think it isn't helpful to go on about what a bad choice some one has made, and get to something helpful! If we don't they may not want to keep asking questions and miss out on the really good advice people have out there:) |
I agree with the first post. As a Newbie I'm looking for help. Not criticism. I've just adopted my pup. and I know he is not perfect, but his imperfection is what I love! |
Uh, yea. LOL I have been teaching for 22 years. |
I think that in a breed specific forum there are always going to be people with extremely strong opinions that are looking for an opening to voice them. Just the way off the world. I do agree though. This is probably going to get me stoned but ever seen the movie "Best in Show"? Sometimes the arguments remind me of that movie and i giggle :D generally if you've made it this far, you do care about your dog and are trying to do the best you can and that also needs to be taken into consideration. You wouldn't be here if you'd purposefully gotten a "crap" dog that you care less about. Life goes on. Generally i think we're a pretty pleasant bunch. :) |

Love it or hate it, you can expect a wide variety of responses anytime you post here--some relevant to the topic, some not. It's just 'part of' a public forum. Pick through the info you find helpful and ignore the rest that someone else may find helpful. If you expect to be able to pick and choose what responses you get and try to control what others post/say, you are only going to end up very disappointed. |
BamaFan121s Controlling what people post is not what my post is trying to achieve. Just a gripe. People who are condescending instead of helpful annoy me and do more harm then good. There are much better ways and times to get a point across :) |

Point being, you can't expect others to conform to your preferred style of responses...just not something you can change, no matter how many round of Kumbaya we go through...lol. Generally speaking, you can't stomp your feet because you don't like the way something was said or answered and expect others to 'be nice' according you YOUR standards. Just doesn't work that way...you just have to deal with it. |
