Thanksgiving Day Menu What is everyone preparing for Thanksgiving? I'm trying to get some ideas for Thanksgiving this year other than the usual turkey and stuffing. What side dishes and desserts are you making? If you have a particular favorite recipe, please share :D |
I am making turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoe casserole, corn casserole, green bean casserole, mac & cheese, deviled eggs, Pumpkion pie, peanut butter fudge, cholate cupcakes and hawiaan fruitcake. I am happy I already have gotten all the stuff I need from the store except the turkey so all I have to do is cook it. Ive got a real good recipe for sweet potatoe casserole. I will hunt it down and post it. Someone posted it on here last year and I made it and everybody really loved it |
My aunt is doing Thanksgiving day dinner this year...so basically whatever she makes...BUT i do know one thing for sure...since we're Italian..PASTA will be first LoL Usually i'm too full from the pasta to even eat the turkey. However, i DID put in a request for Candied Yams....ohhh Yummmmyyyyy!! :D |
Sweet potatoe casserole Bake the potatoes first-I like to wrap them in foil and bake them like you would bake a white potato for about an hour or so. After they cool a bit the skin comes off easy and they are soft and ready to mush Ingredients 1 stick butter 1 T vanilla 3 cups sweet potatoes (4 to 5 large sweet potatoes} 1/2 c sugar or splenda 2 beaten eggs or egg subsitute 1/4 c evaporated milk Topping 3/4 c brown sugar 1 stick hard/cold butter 1/2 cup flour 1 cup chopped pecans Mix potatoes, sugar, vanilla. evap. milk, eggs and butter. Pour in buttered casserole dish. In a separate bowl combine brown sugar, flour aand butter and mix well with fork to make crumbs. Add the nuts. Sprinkle on top of potatoe mixture and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees |

Yeah!! Thanks for posting that menu. Last year I did turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, baked mac & cheese, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pie, and apple cobbler. Those recipes sound awesome! I've actually never made fudge. I think I'll try that one this year :) The sweet potato casserole sounds great too. What is corn casserole? |
We're very traditional on Thanksgiving.... turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, pumpkin pie/sweet potatoe pie OH BUT EVERY HOLIDAY I MUST HAVE MY PUNCH. It's lime sherbert and 7-up. Last Thanksgiving my mom forgot to buy it because she didn't think it was important. I threw a (playful) hissy fit and went to five stores looking for lime sherbert and 7-up. lol |
I am making a more traditional meal with some updated recipes for the regular stuff: -Turkey -Stuffing (my MIL's recipe that believe it or not uses hot dog buns...I tried, but the boys won't have it any other way  ) -Mashed Potatoes -Sweet Potatoes w/Roasted Garlic and Rosemary-savory NOT sweet -A vegetable of some kind-looking for something a little more contemporary than green bean casserole -My "signature" salad, that includes red onions, red pears, candied walnuts, bleu cheese, pomegranate and a raspberry vinagrette -Garlic Cheese biscuits or if I can find a new focaccia recipe I might try that too Oh, and I will ask my MIL to make and bring pies. We always celebrate with my husband's side of the family for Thanksgiving, so everyone comes in Wednesday night and they don't eat the real Thanksgiving dinner until around 7 pm on Thursday. Wednesday night I will make lasagna and breadsticks and have that in the oven as people arrive. Thursday morning we'll have homemade muffins, and for lunch/snacks I'll have chili in the crock pot, plus spinach dip and hawaiian bread, tortilla chips and my secret peach salsa dip, deviled eggs, veggies and fruit, chex mix, apple cider mulling on the stove, and bake cookies...I think that should cover it! |
I am having the traditional dinner with Yorkshire pudding, My Mom was from England and that was something we all looked forward to. Since my Mom is no longer with us I make it and it is the first thing to go!! |
Brined turkey Mashed potatoes and gravy Sourdough stuffing with sausage and apple Buttermilk orange salad Roasted asparagus Those are the menu items I'm making but since we're having around 20 people everyone is bringing something. We'll have a second salad and vegetable at least. Because I end up doing most of the last minute prep I've found recipes and hints for make ahead gravy and mashed potatoes. You can prepare the gravy ahead and reheat it the day of. The other tip I thought was great (don't know why I never thought of this) but you mash the potatoes several hours before dinner and keep warm in a crockpot. For the main turkey (the second will be deep fried) I found this recipe on Food Network. I'ts rated 5 out of 5 star and has over 1,700 reviews!! So I'm going to give it a try... I am getting hungry! we are having turkey, roasted and fried mashed potatoes corn green bean casserole sweet potatoes. (made with caramel yummy!) thats what I am making. not sure yet what my SIL and her mom are bringing. |
Hmm well my MIL now can't make it, so I think I might modify my menu! -Turkey might be swapped out for Cornish game hens (yay, I could eat it then, I don't eat turkey) -The guys have made it clear once again, so her stuffing recipe stays -Pies will probably be cheesecake instead-maybe a pumpkin cheesecake and a blueberry swirl! -Oh, and I forgot the spiced cranberry sauce! I make it homemade, none of that canned crap ;) |
It looks like it isn't going to be just Thanksgiving day but Thanksgiving week. Wednesday night we are having appetizer/pick-up food: Corn Salsa (sooooo good) and tortilla scoops Chips and dip Cheese, cracker, salami trays Cherry Bit Cookies :) Truffles:) Thanksgiving morning: Cinnamon Rolls:):):) Thankgiving dinner: Turkey Mashed Potatoes Stuffing Gravy Butternut Squash Brussells Sprouts Rootabega (sp?) Corn Bread or Rolls Pickles Olives Stuffed Celery Cranberry Sauce Cranberry and Mandarin Orange Relish Sweet Potato Marshmellow Casserole Pumpkin Pie Apple Pie Death by Chocolate All traditional here:) |
