Calling all Lawyers If my boss is bullying me do I have any rights. Any time I question him he brow beats me into submission (i'm not very confrontational). He laughs at me and makes me feel stupid (which I'm not). It's a long story I just wondered what my rights were in this situation. There has been nothing that would be considered sexual harassment i don't think. Expect he treats me like i'm stupid because i'm a girl. |
I am defintely no lawyer but I hate to hear that your boss is being a jerk, it makes work suck!!! I would say you should have some rights but like I said I am not a lawyer...so I'll let someone else answer that... |

I'd be looking for another job! Who need that jerk! lily |
No prob bob!! LOL I understand...I hope things get better soon with your boss.... |
Are you the one who's dad owns the company? If so could he do anything about it? |
I would certainly "document" the incidences. It could be considered abusive and possibly actionable. Is there a supervisor you can complain to anonymously or his boss? We had to let a contract dentist we had go because he treated the staff like slaves and thought the was so much better than everyone else. He was a high producer and a great dentist but he had an anger management problem and we were afraid of potential liablity for an "abusive work environment". :( |

I agree 150% with everything SoCal said. Start documenting it, try to talk to someone in authority over you and that boss about it, if all else fails, pursue action with an attorney or by filing a complaint with the regulatory agency in your state. |
I'm no lawyer but I say go for it - there is NO reason for that and you shouldn't have to put up with it at work...Good luck and keep your chin up ! |
Write every instance down, if there is a union rep or someone in human resources you can talk to, go talk to them. You can also look into labor attorneys (perhaps some may give you free consultations) to see if you have a valid claim for a lawsuit against this person or company. Sorry to hear about your situation, good luck! Oh, just read that your Dad owns the company. If you have a good relationship with your Dad, just tell him directly. We will know how to deal with it. :) |
Thanks everyone for your help. I will start keeping track of all of his actions towards me and my husband that make me feel uncomfortable. I've been with that company many years and most everyone there no that i'm smart and capable and tend to think outside the box. Well this guy that I work for now who is only a year older than me is, I believe, trying to put me in my place or something. I take great pride in my work and want to make the company better and I think he is squashing my drive and desire because he's afraid I'm going to make him look bad. it's very obvious that i threaten him. |

Do to the recent developments my husband and I both are going to begin looking for new jobs where we are treated with at least a slight amount of respect. My husband is working there also on a project as a temp, technically my husband works for me however, my threatened boss took the project away from me and is trying (unsuccessfully) to bully my husband into submission also. |
Since your Dad owns the company, I would definitely speak to him about the situation before I consult an attorney. It could get very stickly and jeopardize your relationship with your Dad. But, if your Dad insists on treating you like any other employee, then you should be able to treat your supervisior like any other abusive boss should be treated. |
