question for all you nurses/medical prof I had a urinalysis done today and it was full of bad things, so Im being treated for yet ANOTHER uti...One of the things they found though was a high level of glucose in my urine... Could that have anything to do with the UTI or could that be a possible indicator of Diabetes? I asked my doctor and she is sending it off to be cultured and told me to wait for it to come back so no straight forward answer... Im only 26, normal weight, but both my parents were diabetic and so is my brother.. But they were not diagnosed until they were way older than I am and they didnt take care of themselves the way I do,, I work out eat somewhat healthy.... |
Yes, it can definitely be a sign of diabetes (or kidney issues). Some women who are pregnant also spill sugar into their urine. But, to confirm diabetes - they'd have to run add'l tests like fasting glucose etcetera. I wonder what he's "culturing" exactly.... Then again, lab tests are sometimes flukes. :) |
I have type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed at 18. I was a gymnast for all my life and in great physical shape. Actually, when I was diagnosed I was almost sickly thin (but that is kind of what happens when you have undiagnosed diabetes you are starving yourself without knowing it, amongst other things). Don't worry just yet. Do you have any other unusual symptoms that would point to diabetes? I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just a fluke. :) UTIs on their own are no fun as it is! |

cause and effect...probably concerned for no reason:rolleyes: I guess just growing up and watching my dad give himself insulin shots every morning and he eventually died from complications has made me a little paranoid about getting it;) |

I'd ask your doc for a lab 'scrip and get the necessary blood work to rule it out, if nothing else. And you don't need an appt for lab work, which is nice. :) |
