Exotic Western Caribbean cruise anyone?
 

I just booked a western caribbean cruise for my 5th wedding anniversary. We are going next month! I can't wait. Has anyone gone on this cruise?
the ports are Port Canaveral, Cozumel Mexico, Belize, Costa Maya Mexico and Nassau Bahamas.
We like to do water excursions can anyone point us to a good one?

I am really sad about not being able to take Bobby with me, I have never been away from him more than a few days. But we are taking him to the yorkie camp and he really loves it there and the couple who run it take care of him like he is one of their own.

I have done that cruise. What line will you be on? You will have a wonderful time.

We are going on Carnival. I prefer Royal Caribbean but Carnival was half the price. I have cruised with both before.

I've been on a western carribbean cruise, but not all of those ports exactly. I think they change them up year to year. I think (?) I went Royal Carribbean for that cruise. I loved Port Caneveral and Cozumel-we did a day trip outside of Cozumel and went to Te Kal (?) and explored the Mayan ruins there, it was amazing, and took great pictures! Nassau I could honestly take or leave, personally-so I'd take it as a beach/snorkel day and just hang out. The shopping is really tourist-trappy and the people MOBBED us trying to "give" us things like handmade bracelets and T-shirts right when we stepped off the ship-and then tried to charge us $ for it.

What line are you going? When are you making the trip? Where do you sail from?

Have done Western Caribbean on Royal Caribbean the stops were different except for Cozumel. My kid and her friends a group of 20 year olds rented 4 x 4 and drove around they saw places we did not even see. Nassau you can do with out the ship excursions not worth it just take the $6 ferry return to Paradise Island and check out the grand hotel, the grounds, the aquarium which is free and the beach. We just got back from Sicily, Greece and Turkey and that was an amazing cruise. We love cruising but have only done RC.

I always wondered the difference between Carnival and RCCL. Please let me know Bobbieyorkie why you like RCCL better than Carnival which I haven't tried but hear the food is better than RCCL.

I went on the Western Carribean Cruise, you didn't say you're going to Jamaica? That one was on ours too, I wasn't very impressed with most of it, but, have heard the Eastern Carribean cruise is a lot nicer..I did love sitting and gambling..:)

I have cruised both...RCCL is a little more upscale, in my opinion. The overall attire of the staff and guests was more dressed up during dinner and the evenings. The food was better, I thought, and the activities/decor/staff were more geared toward adults. Don't get me wrong-they have great programs for kids/teens too.

I have been on Carnival a total of 4 times, and the first few it was fine (I was a teen), but we went for our honeymoon-my husband's first cruise-and it was a nightmare. They messed up big time (long story), but to sum it up they wouldn't let ANYONE on board until after midnight, so we were waiting in line for HOURS, there was a mob scene of passengers outside, and they brought in paramedics to help the people who were fainting from standing so long in the heat, and all Carnival did was fill dixie cups with water and passed them through the bars of the gate on the pier. We finally got to our room after 2:30 AM. We got a credit of $50 total ($25 each) for the "dinner" we had to buy on our own in San Juan for our trouble not being able to get on the ship on time. Then the propulsion was screwed up on the ship, so our time at each port was shortened, and we missed some of the shore tours we had signed up for-they only refunded us 10% of what we paid for the tours! :thumbdown THEN the scenery for one of the vegas-style shows broke (big surprise) and we didn't get to see that after dinner. This was our HONEYMOON and they didn't do anything besides an extra "captain's cocktail hour" for the passengers to make it up to us! I will not be cruising Carnival again!

Oooh the Mayan ruins sounds fun! I understand about the markets, we went to Jamaica a few years back and made the mistake going on the market tour. We were bombarded by people pushing there merchandise on us, they were following us around and making comments when we stopped somewhere else. It made it uncomfortable to shop.

Yeah we were going to check out the Alantis in Nassau. My coworker just stayed there and said it was beautiful!

I only cruised with carnival once 13 years ago. From what I remember from that cruise and cruising with RCCL the food is better and the ship was nicer. I was also 18 and didnt care much about anything but partying :)
I will let you know once I get back how carnival was this time around.

There were 2 options for the western. This one included Belize and left out jamaica, since we already went there we decided we would go for Belize. I am sorry you didnt have to much fun on yours, but hey casino and sitting doesnt sound that bad :)

I must say we love cruising Royal Caribbean, the ships are awesome and have not had a bad experience yet. Looking forward to the new ship Oasis of the Seas.

Oh, Jamaica was scarey..We were going to run across the street to look for a jersey in a store for my g-son. My hubby is about 6'1", this big black guy that had a pimp hat on, must have been about 6'8", he tried getting us to go down an alley. we said NO..he said you scared of me..hubby said no..I'm sitting here thinking, well, I am..scared the living chit out of me..anyway, he kept trying and trying to get us to go down this alley, probably to mug us and then kill us..I have no desire to ever go back there

My husband and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise from Miami to Bahamas and back (it was a short one-three days). We had a blast! I would highly recommend RCCL to anyone! I agree with the people who said Nassau is a tourist trap...so many beggars just waiting for you as soon as you step off the ship. We ended up going to Atlantis for the day..which is beautiful..but don't go there without a credit card. We accidently left our credit cards on the ship, and Atlantis works on a cashless system and we couldn't even rent a locker to put our stuff in so we could do the water slides. They refused CASH! That was really our only negative experience. We really enjoyed RCCL's private island, Coco Cay. It was awesome....could have just layed around that beach for a few more days! We did do parasailing..which if you've never done..you need to do...it's fantastic and not scary at all!

This is sooooo depressing. I have never been anywhere or done anything. My life has always been about the kids.....they are 17 and 19 now, we have started over with a 11 week old. They are the JOY of my life, but surely I can find some me time. A cruise has always been a dream of mine.....what do they start at for a decent trip, I don;t need all the bells and whistles. I am sure a river boat dinner cruise would do me good....lol

Oh I am so excited for you and can't wait to hear all about it. We are going on a western caribbean cruise the week of Thanksgiving. We are going out of Tampa and going to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize and Honduras. Our shore excursions are still up in the air so please let me know what y'all do and what you think. Awww, You should take some time out for you! FYI, cruises are great for kids too, they have activities for them. Maybe not for you little one though. Cruises can be very reasonably priced. a 3 day one can be as low as $400 per person...I hope you get to go on one soon!

I am excited for you too! I saw that cruise too. But i got a really good deal on the one I chose. I hope you have lots of fun! Cruises are so relaxing :) We are going on December 13th. We live in Ca so we are going to take a red eye to Orlando on the 12th and get there in the morning of the 13th.

I have never tried that cruise line. I am glad you liked it.
