Does anyone own a Southern Flying Squirrel? I am just curious if anyone has a love for exotic pets. I might be having a little baby soon ( squirrel) and I was wondering if anyone has one tooo! lol  |
Is that a sugar glider? I have seen one of those before.. I considered getting one for My daughter but decided against it |
AWWWWW I always wanted a pet squirell or a chipmunk...lol...your so lucky.. |
no its actually a squirrel from the US which is easier to keep than sugar glider |
Huh that sounds interesting. You have to be careful of owning exotics because they can make it illegal to own one and then what do you do. Thats what happened to owning prarie dogs and I was worried about it happening with sugar gliders |
I know when "regular" squirrels reach adulthood...they are quite mean. |
How interesting. I have owned many different kinds of animals over the years but never a squirrel. I'd love to hear if they make good pets. You'll have to let us know! |
I'm still looking for a website that had the difference btwn sugar glider and southern flying squirrels... they are about the same size but the nutrition is different and they do not have scent glands like sugar gliders dowhich is a plus because they dont smell as bad or not at all. Sugar gliders need special food and it gets really pricey but Southern flying squirrels basically can eat what we eat fruits veggies little meat here and there so its a big price cut. They do need to be bonded with you at a early age but once that happends they are your babies..and they can live in your bra all day at work! lol and have a little head pop out once in a while... ** I am still considering it because Cutie is a hunter at heart and it will kill me if she would get to it and kill it and Cutie is so spoiled that I think she would be annoyed if I had another pet... Also running a house hold and having two dogs right now and a hubby that doesnt really do much around the house (no clean up after dogs, not walking dogs, or feeding them) plus cooking....I dont know... what are your opinions girls? Should I put my want aside because I have so many things to do around the house or Should i treat myself with this little baby... |
Do they primarily live in some type of cage or pen with bedding? That would nix it for me. I am long past wanting to clean out any type of cage. I think you're probably correct on your dog's reaction. |

yup and that is what cutie did to the mole rat ... |
I love exotic pets, i always wanted a chipmunk. A friend of mine had a squirrel, she saved him and she said he was very territorial of her, he would only be near her and nobody else and would try to bite other ppl. They are so cute tho. |
We had three young fox squirrels that we raised from before they opened their eyes, all the way through winter. One of them was turning white and was the sweetest thing ever, the other two were demons and would bite you every chance they got. FYI... squirrel bites hurt!!! About 2 weeks before we were going to let them go, the gas man came to fill our tank and apparently screwed up something because it leaked the gas out of the tank and into the room where we kept the squirrels. Luckily the cat wasn't back there that night. :( We were going to keep the white one, he was entirely too tame to survive on his own. |
as long as you can afford it, take care of it and keep it safe. I say go for it..after all you will be the one taking care of it right?.....(like everything else it seems)...so ya if you want it,,you go for it girl...;)......oh and how does one obtain one of these squirrells?......see now you got me thinking!!! |
