Any nurses here??
 

Hi everyone,
After LOTS and LOTS of thinking...I've decided to go into nursing. I'm halfway towards my BA in Communications...but I really hate it...and have not been enjoying it at all. I hate that I wasted all that time but I figure why waste my time in something I don't love.

So is anyone in here a nurse?? And how do you like it? Any interesting stories? =D

There are several nurses here, myself included. I have been a nurse for 25 years. I have not worked in the hospital for many many years, but I still do the parts of nursing that does not include the hands on stuff. If you do a search here for "nurse" you will find some other threads with people like you who have chosen this career path. I wish you the best!

Another nurse here. I absolutely love nursing and am so glad I chose this profession 38 years ago!!! :eek: (I'm really old). I graduated with my baccalaureate in nursing in 1974 and have loved every minute of my career. Of course, then I had to get my master's in 1980 and my PhD in 1993.

The great thing about nursing is there are so many things that you can do in so many settings! I've worked in a hospital, insurance company (as the employee health nurse), state health department, and school of nursing. I teach now, and it is my passion. I dearly love teaching.

Whatever you do, you will want/need your BS in nursing. This is because you'll probably want to get a master's in nursing at some point, and maybe even your PhD! So, just go ahead and get the bachelor's in nursing right now!

I have been an RN for 16 years and have worked in a variety of settings. Nursing is a very rewarding job, but please don't let anyone sugar coat it for you. It is very demanding mentally, physically, and emotionally. There have been times I have left my job for the day thinking, "Why did I get myself into this?" And other times, I have left feeling very rewarded, and knew that I made a difference in someone's life. I have many memories of my career, and some of the most precious are gifts that my patients have given me, like angel figurines. Would I do it over again? I don't really know that answer. At times, I think I wouldn't have missed it for the world, and other times, I think, I should have been an attorney like my mom tried to get me too. It is especially hard when you have to leave your family to go to work on holidays, or leave a sick child at home because someone else who is sick needs you more. I am fortunate enough now that I have a telephone triage job where I work from home, and it has been a God send.
I wish you the best in what you decide, and we certainly need more good nurses. If it is truly in your heart, and not about the money, you will find it to be a rewarding and respectful career.;)

I'm in pre nursing right now and hope to be in the nursing program in the fall. I'm not into anything very nursing related right now, but I am excited for a career in this field. I am sure it's hard work, but I also like that there are so many areas that as a nurse, we can work in so if one isn't working out -- there is always something else to try.

I've heard many find what area they excell at as the program continues! :) HTH and good luck!! :)

I've been a nurse for 34 years. Started as 3 y diploma nurse, got my BSN, now have my MSN. LOVE IT! did ER, clinics, med surg, peds, NICU....now I work for a nurses union and teach undergrad nursing
You'll never be sorry you switched...do a bridge program, you probably just need some sciences and clinical;)

My sons fiance is in nursing school. She has also been a pharmacy tech for years. She's got a year left, was supposed to graduate next may, but, now, it won't be until Dec 2009. It's a very hard class. She was a straight A student in h.s but, still this is quite the challenge. She seems to really enjoy it
