:aimeeyorkI have a Westie named Rascal and he is just fantastic!!! I actually got my Yorkie (Sassy) so he would have a playmate. They are wonderful together but I must stress a lot of hard training work involved with a westie as well as a yorkie. They can be quite destructive when they are young but if you have the time and training required for them then they are great! I hate when people pin bad reputations to a breed because usually the ones who have probs with them havent properly trained them. They are full of energy so a good match with a yorkie but require more excersize. You absolutely MUST walk them at least once a day . I can't walk very well so usually I alternate between walking him and taking him with me on bike rides. He prefers the bike rides because then he can go faster which he loves! I also put him thru obedience training and he was at the top of the class all the way thru ! He actually missed it when he graduated and couldnt go anymore! They are very sensitive to certain foods and do tend to have allergy issues so if you dont have a deep pocket then dont get one. It took me 3 years and allergy testing and having serum developed according to his numerous allergies. He is doing great now! I feed him only grain-free food (he is allergic to grains) and they usually dont digest beef well so I avoid that like the plaque! I am rambling so I will close and I believe if you can handle a yorkie then you can handle a westie! They are both high maintenence! So be sure you can handle 2 high maintenence dogs and ENJOY!!!:aimeeyork |
I adopted a 6 year old Westie 2 years ago. She is now 8 years old, and SHE IS A WONDERFUL DOG!!! In my opinion, much easier than a Yorkie (shhhh--don't tell Edie!!), but I did not have to deal with any difficult puppy years. She is a good companion for my Yorkie, Edie, and they really have fun together. If my Westie, Breezy was a human, she would be a comedienne. She is JUST HILARIOUS. Oh---and the tighter you hug her, the more she loves it. That dog is just a LOVE BUG....She thinks that my husband is hers, and she just stares at him adoringly all the time. Sometimes, I get a little jealous! Regarding exercise, I do walk her, but not every day. I have a nice yard, and there is a doggie door, so she just goes outside to run around whenever she feels like it. Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night, and I see her out there in the dark in the middle of the yard (she is so white that she glows!) just looking up at the stars. My Yorkie was my first dog, and she will always be my baby. But I can absolutely say that the Westie is a wonderful dog---highly recommended. |
Oh- I should add that Breezy will run off if given the chance! She is a little adventurer. So the gate is kept latched and LOCKED at all times. Breezy is tagged and chipped, too. I could not bear to lose her. |
We had a westie growing up Cuddles. She was such a good dog very energetic, loyal and affectionate. She was very good with young children and strangers. She loved to play soccer with us:D. I loved her so much. This was also one of the other breeds I considered before we got Carlos. She was also very good with other dogs. |
Thanks For The Information Everyone. Deff Helped me:) They Sound Like A Great Dog To Own:animal-pa |
Westies are good little dogs. They are all terrier, more so then yorkies. I haven't met very many aggressive ones. However i just have to let you know that when i see them at the dog park i pick up morgan and watch them until i know they are ok. Morgan has been "attacked" by two of them that were way to much for her. They are very feisty. |
