Need some advice on photo editing? I know there are alot of you on here that works with different photo editing software. I am looking for a program that will help me with editing some old family photo's. Some have some writing on the front of them that I would like to remove, as well as some scratches, blemishes and so forth that come from just being "old" pictures. Can anyone help me by telling me what you think is the best program to do this with? I have never used anything but the software that came with my scanner and it doesn't let you do much of anything but change the contrast or something like that. Thanks in advance for your help:) |
I think the "best" is Photoshop, but it can be pricy. You could easily remove writing and scratches. The only problem with photoshop is takes a lot of studying and practice to learn everything it can do. The good news is you can pick up just a few things quickly to retouch old photos. There may be some more reasonably priced software out there that does what you need to do. I know some people have mentioned Photoshop Elements before. It's a more affordable version of photoshop. Not sure if that would do everything you need to do, but I'd guess it would. |
Thanks! I will see if I can find a couple of my pics like I am talking about and post them. Is the PhotoShop the same as PaintShop or is that different? |

I'm not on my home computer, but if you wanna post some pics, I'll show you what Photoshop can do tomorrow. Others might be able to play with them too. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are a couple of the photos: 1. Notice on this one the crinkles and tears 2. The name written on the front 3. The bend mark down the middle or scratch? I also have another one that has a big stain or something on the side of the face. Will photoshop help with all of this or are they beyond hope? |

Here's what I was able to do with the last one in about 5 minutes. I removed the line down the middle, a few blemishes on the face, as well as a few other random touch ups. |

Thank you so much, I can only hope I will be able to do this well with them as you did. This is perfect. I will definately check out photoshop elements. Thank you again for your help! |
One other question? When you have a pic that you took from a digital camera and it made it somewhat "fuzzy", can you fix that with the photoshop software? If so, how would you do that? |
I'm not sure about that. I know you can use the "sharpen" tool to make it appear less blurry (and in return the photo becomes grainy), but for the most part, you can't focus an image that's already been taken. Maybe you can with the full version of photoshop (which is like $800), but I'm not sure. |
Oops, sorry, got busy yesterday and forgot about this thread. Fortunately, Epsilon has got you hooked up! That's an awesome job. I doubt I could do it that well on Photoshop, so talent obviously has something to do with it. If she can do that on Elements, I'd say get that. As for sharpening, it can improve slightly blurry shots, but the cost is usually some extra graininess. If you want to PM me, I'll send you my e-mail address and try sharpening a picture for you. You can also e-mail the large photo, and I'll see if there's something I can do. |
