Freezing Spaghetti Sauce? Has anyone frozen Spaghetti Sauce in a jar? I mean - just stick the jar in the freezer? It's just two of us at home, and we NEVER eat a whole jar of spaghetti sauce, so we wind up putting over half in the fridge - forgetting about it - and then dig it up later to find a nice green fungus growing on top. :tongue4: Never fails. Has anyone frozen it in the jar? |
Yes, you can freeze it in the jar, If its glass make sure it has room to expand or it will burst. I always just put mine in plastic container to freeze. |
All the time. After I add the rest of the stuff, then there is too much for us then I just refill the jar..allow for the expansion, and then in a few weeks I take out and make noodles and fresh speg. all over again:D |
Yes! We do that a lot also. |
yes, you can freeze in the jar it if it's already half used; still it is always more safe to put in a plastic container, or even a ziplock bag. |
I ALWAYS freeze my left over sauce... but I put it in a ziplock bag... ;) |

This works great to if you want to have pasta at work for lunch...just make your noodles ahead...with a little olive oil on them ...put in a zip bag...and take a zip bag of sauce....put both on a plate or bowl at work and microwave...yummmm fresh pasta for lunch! |
i didn't know you could freeze it! i throw away so many half used jars of sauce.. i'm going to start doing this! |
omg!!! i freeze everything.. every sunday i cook sauce and always have leftovers, i freeze it in a tupperware each week and when i have enough of frozen meatballs and sauce, i make lasagna.. yummy... you can freeze almost anything.. |
Thank you all! :) I've wasted sooo much spaghetti sauce over the years that turned into "science projects"... no more! to the freezer it goes ...Now! :p |
I freeze homemade sauce (on those very rare occasions that I make it) but we always use a whole jar so I never thought about it. To those feezing- do you think you can freeze Alfredo? My daughter loves it and eats it as a quick easy dinner sometimes when I make something a little too 'out there' for her palate.:D Those forgotten half empty jars are where I work on my own little science experiments.:p Actually alfredo doesn't grow mold but it sure can turn stinky. |

so the answer I got about alfredo sauce was that they never had much luck with freezing it because it has too much fat in it... and thats what I was thinking about home made... but Im not sure about store bought.... sorry... |
