my doggies hair?!?! hey i was wondering if theres anything i can do to make my yorkies hair healthier.it looks dry and messy but its weird because sometimes his hair looks wet when its not. i comb it on a regular basis and i use earth bath shampoo for him..is there anything i can use or do to make it look better?? |
You could also use a shine product... I usually do.. and since I think she has a cotton coat, I sometimes use chi products on her. (I am im) patiently waiting for our order of Mink sheen to arrive... secretly hoping that will be our greatest product so far!;) |
3 Attachment(s) Now im deff not trying to put a damper in your excitement,,,but Riley had a cottony puppy coat.(he is just truning 7 months old) and the mink sheen did not do much for his coat,,(it worked great on my bichons, but not on him) and I have heard others on here say it didnt work so great on the cottony coats..I was excited to try it as well..but on the up side,,it does work good at repelling fleas,,and i like the smell,(altho some dont)..how old is you yorki? if is is still his or her puppy coat your dealing with,,you can cut it off, thats what I ended up doing..and its the best decision I ever made. what was underneath (the new growth) was soooooo much nicer then the dry matty puppy hair..and it was a differnt color,,so that was cool, it was like opening a christmas presant,,not knowing what you gonna get..lol...he was such a pretty shade of shiny silky soft bluish silver under all that yucky puppy hair!..and you can keep clothes on him so he wont get cold,,and there is a plus to that as well, the cothes used to make him get mats,,so i couldnt wear them on him very much, but not anymore!!!!:D..now he gets to wear clothes all the time with no worries..and yet another plus side..the minksheen does work on this new growth...I think he is going to be silky altho I know his coat can change many times untill he is an adult.but for now its beautiful..Ill include a beofre and after pic. |

Thats totally up to you!...but if your house is warm and you wear warm clothes on her out side and she is not out there too long..she should be fine if you cut it off,,and you dont have to shave her all the way down like I did..I just wanted it all GONE..LOL...you could take her down like half way so she still has some hair,,but at least some of that yucky would be gone. good luck what ever you decide. |
Oh I forgot to tell you..if you cut her hair off..it will grow back a lot nicer, and then you cal leave her long..you usually only have to cut it off once..thats why I did it,,cuz I like Riley long too..so I wanted to get the puppy coat gone so it could regrow long and be nice and more manageable. |

How old is your Yorkie? Sometimes when they are puppy's their hair looks really dry or poofy, i know Teddy's did. It was poofy like a poodle's but now it's shiny and soft. I use different shampoos on him though. You can addd some 'Missing Link' Supplement to his food, that can help with hair problems also. |

They all stop growing at diff. times, some at 6 mos, some at 10. They are no longer puppies when they are a year old i guess. |
