Need help to remove smoke smell I just bought 2 beautiful, woven SAK purses at an estate sale. The purses are new but came from a smoker's home. I have already washed them with Tide and fabric softener but they still smell like smoke. Do you think dry cleaning would help? What about using vinegar in the rinse cycle or even soaking them in something? How can I remove this horrible smell?? I love the purses but I can't carry them smelling like that. :sickie: |
Did u try febreeze or soaking them in baking soda? I have never had a smell that baking soda doesn't get rid of. |

Try stuffing them with crumpled up newspaper-tightly. Then put in a tupperware with more crumpled newspaper, and put a lid on it. Leave it for 48 hours. Then open it, and throw out the paper. The paper should absorb the smell, and the purses shouldn't stink any more. This works really well on tupperware that smells like fish or garlic-just stuff with newspaper, seal, and leave for 2 days. Let me know how it works! |
No, I haven't tried baking soda yet. I wish I would have noticed that smell before I bought them but they were out in the open and it wasn't noticable...plus the people running the sale weren't smoking so I didn't even think about it. |

Hanging them outside in the direct sunlight will help too. |
Put a few blocks of regular charcoal in a tissue and put them in the purse and let them stay awhile. Not the matchlight kind just regular charcoal. It will absorb any smells. Charcoal is what we use in refigerators or freezers where they got shut off and the meat spoiled, Charcoal is the only thing that will get the bad smell out. |
stuff a dryer sheet on the inside place your purse in a plastic bag place another dryer sheet in that bag and take it outside to airout! if that doesn't work hose it off with Febreeze |

this is the only method i've found that works for hard smells. it really is amazing at the difference:) |
I've also been told to put vanilla soaked tissues into an enclosed space that smells bad |
Did anything work? How are your smelly purses? ;) I hope not so smelly anymore so you can enjoy them! |
