I need help from all of my google goo-roo's!!!!! Ok, my soon to be ex husband is trying to force me to quit breast feeding our 8 week old daughter, because it is too inconvenient for him and his visitation. Well, I refuse to stop. I believe breastfeeding her is the best thing for her, and as long as I am able and willing, I feel it is my right to do so. I could understand if I were on medications or led an unhealthy lifestyle, but I simply do not. So, since I know you guys are all sooooo good at finding things online, can you help me find some reports that show the benefits of breastfeeding, and I also need to find some reports that show that it is OK to supplement with formula if needed. That it is still great for the baby to get ANY amount of breast milk. To date, we have not supplemented at all, but in the custody arrangement we are trying to work out, it might be kinda difficult for me to pump enough milk for her to be away from me for long periods of time. So he may end up having to supplement. He is arguing that it will be unhealthy for her to have both formula and breast milk. I need your help....please?!?!?!! |
Mandee, I did a google search and came up with this. Some of the suggestions are great! Such as, you can still pump your breasts while she is not there and store it in the freezer for up to 3 months, so she would always have milk even when with the ex. Can i breastfeed and bottle feed at the same time? - Yahoo! Answers |
Hi Mandee, sorry your having problems with this. The Le Leche League has a bunch of articles on this stuff....Under the "Family Issues" section, the second question, there is an article about the very issue your referring to.....Hope it helps.... LLLI | Breastfeeding Answers from La Leche League |
Mandee - why don't you just give her formula yourself and at the same time, pump your breast milk and then he'll have enough breast milk and he won't even know about the formula? And then when she is away from you, you can pump for the next time. |

I just wanted to voice how angry I am for you, your breastfeeding your baby is your right and no one should be allowed to take that away from you. Him arguing that its unhealthy to supplement is just hogwash, every little bit of that liquid gold she gets from Mom is what counts. |
I breastfed my daughter and couldn't get the pumping thing down, so when she was being babysat or when we went out in public I supplemented with formula, with the doctor's consent and she had no problems and turned out perfect. I wish you the best of luck on dealing with this individual..thought it best not to really express what I'd like to call him...:D |
The trick to successful pumping is to get a really GOOD quality pump. My daughter was in college when she had her daughter, so she wanted to try pumping so her husband and I could feed the baby while she was gone to class. She tried a couple of breast pumps with no success. Then, someone told her to rent one of the professional, heavy duty, pumps and it worked like a dream!!! So, I bought her one. Her daughter is now 12 years old and I can't tell you how many of her friends have borrowed it over the years and it still works great!!! |
