Prayers to those in Texas digging out. Wow. I've spent some time looking at pictures of a ravished Crystal Beach and Galveston area from Hurrican Ike. I am so sad for all the people left homeless, their belongings destroyed. My heart is breaking looking at these pictures and the devastation. I had NO idea how damaging Ike truely was. It has not received the press that Rita did. Anyways, here is a folder of pics from Ike. Some are truely heartbreaking, some show the strength of the human spirit to endure and thrive and pull together in times of need. I pray for all those families. This link brings you to an article about a woman who lost her house to Rita and had another one rebuilt to withstand a class 5 hurricane. It did withstand it, but nothing around her house did. The photos are almost surreal, but they are real. Scroll down and there is a photo gallery of Ike's aftermath. How Did Lone Home Survive Ike? |
I found this website just now: The short - but eventful - life of Ike - The Big Picture - Boston.com It hast LOTS of pictures, including that lone house. I will read the story about it you posted next. |

omg!!!! i cant imagine... omg!!! those poor people, animals, etc. terrible. my heart goes out to each and every one of them.. |
wow that's all I can say |
I've also read where some of those beach front property owners will not be allowed to repair or rebuild...because the storm changed the tide marks and now a lot of it will become property of the state. |
Did you see the pics of the dead horse? I was horrified they took pics of that! sooo freakin sad! The whole thing is just a nightmare. |
It is a nightmare - I hadn't seen those pictures .... I don't think too many hurricanes have ever made it all the way from the gulf to Canada...I still can't believe how bad it was. It was one scary storm. This whole city just is changed (for now) ....and it's going to take some people a long time to come back from this one - |

when people signed their contracts - their house should be covered no matter where it moved. Talk about screwing people. I'll say this - many were 2nd homes/vacation homes and I guess I feel worse for the people who lost their only home I heard Fema is not exactly being easy to work with either. |
One word for FEMA....awful. Wait...two words...awful and slow. I have TRIED to deal with them personally...I say tried cause eventually I said...screw it. What many people don't realize with Fema....they don't just hand out money....although occassionally they will give a small amount. Fema provides low interest LOANS. There are no gifts. My brothers own property on the outer banks...now down there...every property has a septic tank vs public sewage...if a storm comes through and uncovers that tank...the house is condemned and you can't rebuild. I don't mean...a destroyed septic tank...just one that was exposed. Regarding the law in Texas....I wondered what it would mean to the woman whose house you see still standing...cause her house is within that tide line change too. |
Fema is slow and most of time unreachable. When I reached them for help they referred me to the Red Cross..and vice versa. All in all we're on our own. We do appreciate your prayers, it's going to be a long road. |

I wonder how many people actually know all the loopholes in their insurance ? That lone house in the ocean was pretty incredible to see - amazing it withstood when all around it was gone |

Even when you reach Fema....they're useless. I never talked to the same person twice...and one would contradict the other |

Last big storm down there...he has a friend who is a pilot with a private plane....he paid him the gas money...to fly over his house. Cause they wouldn't let people go down there. |

How are you holding up Denise ? Are you still in the hotel ? |
Fema has been and always will be slow. They are still waiting for help here from last years fires. My sister has friends still with her, they lost everything last year. Our Thoughts and Prayers go out to all in Texas.:2hearts2: |
