Isn't it funny how you can remember specific moments like this? (My Mom can tell me what she was doing when JFK and when MLK were killed.) Sad and scary. I was in class, my 10th grade AP European History class. I had no idea anything was happening until I went to my next class, Spanish, and some guys were talking about it. They were totally idiots and so the teacher thought they were joking. To prove them wrong she turned the TV on and the timing was unfortunate enough that we saw the live feed of the second plane. My Mom picked me up from school that day. The whole family sat in the house together. Sometimes it takes horrific moments to make you take thought and gather what means the most. |
We were living and working in VA beach. I was at work and my hubby had just turned on his computer and saw the headline. I turned on a radio and heard about the 2nd plane. I left work early and was calling my family. I have 4 brothers who work in lower Manhattan. We could not get a hold of 2 of them. My sil finally got a hold of my brother after 4 hours-he is police. We finally got hold of the other brother after awhile. I was glued to the tv for the next few days. It was very eery, we worked by the naval base and everything was locked down. |
My husband and I were at his Aunt's funeral. We were standing in the funeral home getting ready to leave when his cousin came in crying and told us. Her husband is a civilian worker at the Pentagon and she and her sister left right then to drive back to Virginia. After the funeral we all went back to his Uncle's house and just stood around the tv crying. I was the president of the school board and I was on the phone with the superintendant throughout the day. We had many students who had family members working at the WTC. Luckily they all made it home that day. Sadly, my sister's dear friend lost her brother. His story made the news because his wife had just had a baby and he'd taken two weeks off. He went back to work 9/10. God bless all those who's lives were forever altered by 9/11. And, yes, Megan, we did all sit down and talk about it. I'm kind of glad you were too young to comprehend the significance of what happened. |
I was at my condo in Florida, vacuuming, when my neighbor called and told me. Two years ago, I was able to visit Ground Zero and was looking at all of the names of the people that were killed. I saw a particular name...it was an unusual name...so I knew it was a boy I went to High School with on Long Island many years before. I researched it and found out that it was him. RIP Jon. |
I had just taken Lauryn to school and was on my way to work when on the radio is said a plane struck the towers. I got to work, turned on the tv and watched all the news coverage. I was actually watching the coverage as the 2nd plane hit. I remember thinking...omg we are under attack. I was numb and in total shock. Heart broken!! After the 3rd plane hit, I told myself if one more plane hits somewhere, I was going to pick Lauryn up from school and bring her home. I too watched the news coverage for weeks and weeks afterwards. I remember the first sunday at church after it happened everyone was numb and sad. We prayed and prayed, held our families tight, thought alot about what really matters. My heart goes out to all the families who lost there loved ones, all the kids that came home that day to no parents, wives who lost there husbands, husbands who lost there wives, etc. I still can't imagine what that day was like being there in the mist of it all. It was painful enough watching from home. Still to this day, when 911 rolls around I wonder will something else happen today, Have we let our guards down, and what is next. This world is a sad sad place and keeps getting worse.:(:(:( |
I was at work at an Ad agency in Boston. Our building sat right across the inlet from Logan Airport and each day I sat at my window and watched the planes take off over our building. My bosses wife called and said a plane hit the WTC...I thought she meant Boston's WTC and I was like no it didn't I'm looking at the WTC and she said NY. I turned on my radio (we didn't have a tv in the office) and was listening as it unfolded. I remember hearing the DJ screaming as the second plane hit the second tower. I had a crowd around my desk. The news kept coming there were more planes and we watched holding our breath as plane after plane flew over our heads to land at Logan. My Mom worked at American Express travel in Cambridge so I called and told them the news there. They lost 4 clients on those flights out of Boston. I remember once all the planes landed it was so eery as the fighter jets went screaming by patrolling the skies over Boston. When the Pentagon was hit I new life had changed forever as we knew it. Never forget that day and never forget, whether you support our president or the war in Iraq, that our troops are in harms way every day trying to prevent this war on terrorism from taking place here on our soil. Better there than here. |
We were at a funeral. Then after the funeral we were at our families traditional after-funeral get together and the Priest was there and said "we must pray for New York". And everyone agreed that "yes.. we must"... after we prayed, I asked someone "Why are we praying for New York?".. and we were told. We were so shocked. We hadn't turned on the tv or listened to the radio yet that morning so we had no idea til the Priest mentioned it. We drove home afterwards with radio on listening in eery shock to the horrible details. We felt like we were in another world. |
I was @work. The receptionist, a very good friend, was across the hall from my office. She'd heard the news & told me a plane had hit a NY building. It only registered @first that it was sad that lives were lost, & that it was probably a terrible accident, but no one could imagine the horror & devastation that was about to unfold. I watched it on the internet. Many employees gathered in the sales area to watch on tv. It's very emotional to hear the stories from those of you who were in NY that day. God Bless All who were forever changed and especially those who lost friends, loved ones on that sad day!:2hearts2::flag42: |
I was sitting behind my computer in the exact same spot where I am now. My office faces the Hudson River and I am 20mins outside of NYC. The radio sits on my desk. I heard the music stop and an announcer frantically stated that a plane just went into the World Trade Ctr. OMG we all screamed. My daughter was watching TV when the newscast came on. She called me crying and it seemed like seconds she screamed again saying another just crashed into the second tower! Now panic sets in. She's hysterical and says Fran, her girfriend from college, works on the 12th fl of that bldg! MY SIL was out of town and everyone was frantic thinking this is it. When we realize it terrorist's I just wanted to get to my daughter and her new baby girl, my granddaughter. I left work immediately, being told I will have to take a vacation day, like I cared! I had to cross a major bridge to get there and prayed across it. I figured if this was it I was going to go with my family. We were glued to the TV for days. Her girlfriend Fran got out in time. Her husband waiting outside praying she get's out. He worked in the first tower. It's so hard to relive this nightmare every year but it will never go away, never. Crossing the bridge on the way home the tower's we're gone! I could always see them crossing the bridge on a clear day. All I saw was black smoke for miles. |
I was sitting @ my desk @ work. Not the same spot as now. We have moved the office since. My office manager's mother called and told us. We had no TV to turn on, just the radio. The owner was away on business and the owner's son & DIL were on their honeymoon. The owner's wife who worked here @ the time also, came in and called her husband. He so kindly said we could go home for the day. I went home and watched the TV news coverage the rest of the afternoon and evening. :usastar::usastar::usastar::usastar::usastar: |
I was having a false labor, pregnant with my youngest son. That's the only reason i saw the second plane crash live. I was up at 5 a.m. with contractions expecting to have to go to the hospital soon, turned the tv on just as the news showed the second plane. At first look, I was like is this the news?? OR Movie?? I couldn't believe what i was seeing. |
I'm a flight attendant with United Airlines....I was on a layover and a flying partner woke me up and was screaming into the phone "Turn on the TV, turn on the TV" and she hung up. I turned on the TV and witnessed the 2nd plane hit the tower!! It was surreal. Then I found out that they were American and United planes and felt even worse. I was stuck on my layover for 4 days and my husband and family were so worried. The planes were grounded and we couldn't get home. Obviously, that day changed my life, my work life has never been the same. My profession has changed forever and our focus on terrorism can overwhelm me. I still love my job but will forever hate the terrorists who killed all those innocent people and have put the rest of us in a state of high alert forever. |
i was sitting at my desk in an office building when the news broke.. they rushed us out of the building because we us. customs was also in with us.. figuring that was another target.. as we all fled the building, looking towards nyc, we saw the other tower collapse.. terrible day it was lost a cousin ... |
