I don't like nicknames and tried very hard to give my two sons names that couldn't be nicknamed easily. First son was named Rolla (after my father) Trent and called Trent. Well, he has red hair and his last name is McBride, so he did get nicknamed, red or mac, especially after he went into the military. Someone began calling him R.T., his initials, which became Artie, which is what most people call him now, outside of his family. Ugh! Second son was named Darin Allen and he should have escaped nicknames, but he was in grade school when the TV show Bewitched was popular and the mother-in-law called the guy named Darren Derwood, so my Darin got called Derwood. He did outgrow that one when he went to high school, thank goodness. No one has ever called him mac, so he is just Darin, which is what I intended.
