Kittens???????
 

We just moved into our house yesterday. The old people who were living there were feeding a stray cat. Well, she just had some kittens yesterday. 3, actually. :eek:What do you think I should do? She will stay on our property so I feel its my responsibility.

I considered putting them in the garage and handling the kittens so they would be friendly enough to give away later. The mom cat is very nice and lets me pet her, so that would be easy enough.

Or...I could just leave them alone completely. If I do that, though, Im afraid I will have 4 strays running around!

I would take her & the kittens in the gargage Feed them, When there ready for there homes find them home & spay the mom.

I would put them in the garage and socialize them. At least then you might have a chance to find them homes. If you don't want to keep them you could look for a no kill rescue to take them. Maybe you could foster the kittens until they are old enough for a rescue to take. Good luck. I find kittens all the time. I give them to a local rescue.

Thanks for the advice. I put a large box in the garage with a towel in it and food and water. The mom cat was very nice about letting me move her kittens. She just watched me and followed me. I fed her and she ate 2 whole bowls of food. I also left the windows open in the garage for air circulation.

The neighbor saw what I was doing and came over. She said when theyre older she wanted one. :) Then, my best friend came over for our cookout and said she wanted one too. :D So all I would need to do is find a home for one kitten and its mommy.

Take the babies inside the garage, and be sure to handle them everyday. Also take momma in, and feed her only kitten chow. When the babies get about 3 weeks, introduce them to a potty pan with NON CLUMPING litter! Clumping turns to cement in their tummies, and causes life threatening illness.
You just keep putting them in it, and moving and digging with their paws and they will catch on quickly.

Once they hit 8 weeks, and eating on their own, they should be ready for adoption! Make sure they are eating solids, which you start introducing at 4 weeks. Either canned food, or moisened kibble.

NOW- Once the babies are adopted, you have a few options.
Decide if you want to keep kitty, or find her a home. If she is friendly, I would probably adopt her to an indoor only home, if you cant keep her.

If you want to keep her, and let her stay outside(which I do not recommend because so many bad things could happen), you MUST get her fixed to keep her from making your house a cat house:rolleyes: She can get pregnant within 4 weeks from having the babies. So keep her in while they are 4-8 weeks, to make sure she does not get pregnant.

Thanks for the great advice. Im not planning on keeping mommy, but I will try to find her a good home. Can older cats learn litter box training?

Yes they can.She probably already knows! It is a natural kitty behavior. Give her a potty pan and show her to it. Bet she uses it with no problems!

In the wild, a kitty covers their pee and poop, to keep larger predators from picking up the scent and getting them. So she should be more than willing;)

IF by some off chance that she doesnt, get a scoop full of outside dirt and put it in the potty, and she will know that is where to go. Then you can switch to litter!

PS- they also try and paw around their food to keep predators away as well;)
