Direct Buy Is anyone a member? How much does it cost and is the membership fee worth the savings? I am thinking of giving my kitchen a face lift with new countertops, sink, disposal and microwave, was wondering if it would be worth it to join Direct Buy. I'm looking at Granite or Silestone or Corian countertops. |
Direct Buy! Hi, my hubby and I joined Direct Buy under another name about 18 yrs ago. At that time we were invited to a seminar on the club. We were very pressured into the "buying expierience". We did join and at that time the membership fee was over $1000.00 and a membership renewal fee of about $100.00 per year. We had not had our home too long at the time and we did purchase thru them a master bedroom wall unit set, a oak chest, a curio cabinet, and problely a few small items. After that we did not make any further purchases and for many years did not go there and always paid that yearly membership. Oh I believe we did save some money on our purchases that we did make but because that is all we purchased I doubt it if we saved much more than the membership price cost us. I finally did not send the renewal fee and we cancelled membership. We have not regretted it. I think the club is great if you have a new home or into buying all new things for a home but if you don't have any intention of constantly making big purchases than it is not really worth it. For us after buying our home the twin girls came and then our son and thus we had no money for "big purchase items" anymore. We have never wanted for anything and have everything we need so I guess for you you have to really know you have lots of purchases you need to make over a period of time to save enough to cover the membership fee which I am sure is a lot more money now a days. Good Luck!:) |
my friend at work recently checked them out and the membership was like $1800 a year. To me that is not all that much of a deal because the prices were not that huge of a difference from the store. I think with the economy as bad as it is if you price shop you can save tons of $$ and not spend that membership fee. Places are dying for business and willing to wheel and deal. |
Thanks. I sure am glad I checked before getting suckered in. The showroom is very close to where I work, would have been way too easy. Considering I have a one butt kitchen, I probably won't be spending too much more than the membership fee to get what I want. |
Belive me the economy is at a standstill now and only the have's are really doing heavy renovations and such. Home Depot is offering so many incentives as far as discounts for people to spend their money there...lol. Also check around for small local manufacturers that might be looking to improve business. |
maybe you can find someone who is a member that would buy for you. The guy that lives next door to my folks has said that if they ever wanted anything he would just get it for them. |
I googled them last year and the results were NOT good. Sounds like you're better off looking for sales then joining them. |
I've heard mixed reviews about direct buy - what I've gathered is that a membership is really only worth it if you have new construction and will be buying a large quantity of merchandise. Considering the renovations you're planning on making, I agree with the OP who said you might be better off shopping for deals locally. If you were going to completely tear out your kitchen and start over (new cabinets and everything) then it might be worth the membership. One of my family members joined and was able to get cabinets that would have been something like $30,000 (crazy, I know) for about $6K. Good luck! Getting a shiny, new kitchen is so fun. :) |
We're members. For us it will be a savings as we are in the process of building our barn with living above it. (3, 000 sq feet) and in 3 years we'll be building our farmhouse up on the hill. So with all the appliances, flooring, etc-------- it's well worth it. After that though, we'll have to see. We have already bought some small appliances, futon mattress and exercise equip at deep discounts. |
