Ouch, that looks like that hurt! You got good advice, hoping it heals without too much scarring. |
Jodi how is your son? What did the Dr say? What a handsome young man! |
I started using some stuff from Avon called "Anew" on my daughter's scar a few weeks ago and boy has it worked. It's actually for stretch marks, but I read a bunch of reviews where people used it for scars and liked the results, so I figured, what's it going to hurt? Used Mederma for a while, but I really can't say for sure if it was working, or if it was just the wound healing as it naturally would have anyway. But it definately got to a point where nothing much was happening, so I swapped the new stuff and can really see improvment. My daughter's plastic surgeon said that the most important thing to do to minimize scarring was to avoid sun exposure at all times! :( All 3 surgeons we've consulted agreed--said the sun could 'tattoo' a fresh scar to a purple/bluish color that no surgery or revision could reverse. (Didn't know until then that they even made SPF 85! Wow!) She also has to have tissue massage therapy every day to re-align the collogen and make sure that it heals evenly--not indented or raised. (So basically, pressured circular motion for 15 min a day.) Hopefully for your son it will turn out to be more nasty road rash than anything and you won't be able to tell. Hope you son (and you!) are better soon.:) |

Some Insurances cover the cost... so long as it is written as a prescription... But you have to be one of those lucky employees... I am not one of them.. (federal employee here.. :( ) Quote:

Whatever works though when it's your child, you know? Be it $23 or $2300... Heck, I don't need BOTH of my kidneys...I'm sure I could manage to sell one on the black market or ebay or something... |
LOL you can sell anything online these days.. be it ebay or even craigslist...:D Quote:

We're home from the doc. He had a bit of a traumatic time there due to a wierd allergic reaction to some numbing medicine?? and then possibly he had a panic attack?? I don't know:confused:..but everything is ok now. They did a cat scan too. Everything's good. Thank you for the concern and comments!! |

I would wait till is heal. and take him to a dermatologist for the scar, if any. My nephews are going to be fifteen this weekend, and they both had accidents ; only one of them had a little scar left on the ayebrow. That scar was corrected in-office op |

Well, he'll have a cool story to tell at school. If I were him I throw in something about an alligator or a burning building just for good measure.;) |

The best thing you can do right now is to keep an antibiotic slave on it but make sure it doesn't get in his eye. It is so close! :( Poor guy. I was always told that vaseline put on a scar every day will help to minimize it. This was from a nurse after my daughter's facial surgery. I hope he heals quickly. I feel so badly for him. He is a cutie! A sad looking one, but a cutie nonetheless. ;) |

Ouch ! He may not scar at all - but if he does - mederma (sp) may help - theres lots of scar treatments over the counter now |
I am glad he is ok! |
Oh, that poor boy! I feel so bad for him...it must hurt something awful! I hope he heals up quickly and has no scars! |
I did the same thing to my knee when I was about 20. I fell going down on a hill on blades & skidded on gravel on top of cement. It was really deep & really gross. I'm sure I picked the scab because I'm a scab picker & you can barely see where it was. I just recently had a tattoo removed & I was very worried about it scarring. My Plastic surgeon told me to keep it moist until it was completely healed. She recommended I use aquaphore instead of antibacteral ointment. She said the antibacteral ointment can cause an allergic reaction if you use it too many days in a row. She also told me to applie sunscreen to it until it returned to it's normal color. My last treatment was in March & it's healed up manificently with no scar. I think keeping it moist & not picking the scab is the most important. |

Use neosporin until the skin has healed back together, then begin using maderma with spf 3-4 times DAILY for I believe 2-3 months. You could also have a plastic surgeon look at it and they can give you a prescription for scarring cream. Maderma SPF is great though. You want the SPF to protect from the sun harming the scar |
Ouch! that looks like it hurts sooo bad. :( Big hugs to you and him! I hope it doesn't scar too badly! He is so cute! :p I love his hair! |
Just wanted to bump this and share what I was told yesterday. We took my daughter back to see the surgeon yesterday and he told me about this stuff: Scar Treatment and Skin Scarlight - Scarguard MD & Scarlight MD He said that he really has not seen enough of an impact with any of the other products out there to convince him to actually recommend them to his patients, but said that he does with this one. He said it was developed by plastic surgeons and that some of the other docs he works with have used it and really like it. I pulled up the site to read about it and crikey is it expensive! :shocked7q But whatever works...:idontknow He said you could buy it at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc. |
