Eek! Ruined my hair :( My cousin's wedding is this Saturday, and in anticipation of seeing EVERYONE in my family again, I decided to highlight my hair last night. I've done this many times before, and I have it down to a science. My hair is very very dark, so I start out with a highlighting kit. I put on the cap, pull the hair through, and then bleach it. I keep the cap on while washing it out, and then I dry the bleached part and put a color on it. It usually works out great! I end up with my dark hair and caramel highlights. WELL, last night I finished washing all of my hair, looked at it in the mirror, and freaked out! The bleach had gotten through the little holes in the cap and made little spots all over the top of my head!!!!! My hair was parted in the middle so that's pretty much where the damage is. I pulled my hair back today to cover up the spots, but I think after work I'm going to go find a cheap dark dye and try to cover up the spots myself. I just refuse to pay insane amounts of money to go to a salon! I really hope it turns out okay. I'm not sure how I can get just the bleached areas without it touching the good highlights underneath. :( |
Aww, what awful timing for a hair catastrophe! If you can't cover the spots, you can probably just color your whole head- maybe start over? I don't know, I am a huge chicken and wont touch my own head with chemicals. I'm sure your hair dresser could work it out. Daisy Mae is a hair dresser- maybe she could offer some tips. Good luck!:) |
Oh wow...lol Okay sorry to laugh. I would just go buy a darker dye and be done with the highlights. If you do it again you can seriously burn your hair:eek: and that would be worse. Your only other option if you want highlights is to go to a salon. |
Doesn't "Avery" do hair as well? I am pretty sure they are going to recommend seeing a professional though. I would hate to screw it up further and end up orange!! It's ok though, you still have lots of time before the weekend! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!! |
lol everyone always recommends seeing a professional. I think I'm going to try covering the spots tonight, and if that doesn't work I'll probably just go back to all dark. I've been highlighting my own hair since I was about 16 (8 years!) and this has never happened this badly before! It looks like it's just near the roots though... has anyone used any of those root touch-up applicators? I wonder if that would work |

Well, since you're not willing to see a professional (I understand why), just try your best whenever you're putting the dark on to not get the highlights. You could also try to pull the highlights out, stick them in some foil (Reynolds Wrap will be fine if you don't have hair foil) and put some conditioner on them. It will help keep the color off of the highlights. At Sally's, they also sell these small wands that have a small brush on the end of them for like $1 - $2 and I think it would help in applying the color to a small spot. :) Good luck, if you need anymore help or anything just PM me. ;) |

It still didn't turn out how I wanted (still very orange from my experience with L'oreal Dream Blonde burning my scalp - posted a thread about it somewhere) so now I'm going to wait on my lovely boyfriend to get home so we can color it brown again. Emilyann... I wish I could have seen that lol. Did you get it back to normal now? Last night I got out the bottle of brown dye, and pretty much put it down the whole part in the middle of my head. I thought it would at least look better with the look of highlights that have grown out a bit, than to have blonde roots :) Then I found a few other splotches and covered those too, and one little streak of light color that ended up in my bangs. Then with pretty much the whole bottle of dye left, I thought I'd dye the bottom layers of my hair dark (This shade looked to be about a shade or two darker than my hair is now. So I pulled up the top highlighted layers into a ponytail (and covered it in foil lol) and then dyed the bottom half. I wasn't quite sure how it would turn out, but it turned out AWESOME! I am proudly wearing my hair parted down the middle today :D Oh and I was going to take pictures last night, but my camera batteries died! |
Well you know when you have something important its bound to happen then. I even use to go to a professional. I would color my hair all one color and then go to her and let her highlight over the top. I have done this several times. Loved it and the way it turned out. My husband had a ceramony for his pinning Navy Chief and I went to get my highlights done. Well she couldn't find the card that told her what color she used and she said no problem she remembered. I came out with Madonna Hair almost pink highlights. I was so embarrased I couldn't believe she did that, I wouldn't let her change it in fear of it getting worse. Those pics are terrible. |
Oh my gosh, that's terrible!! I remember the first time I got highlights from a salon, before I ever attempted them myself. I went in after school (I was about 15) and she put the rubber cap on my head, mixed up some stuff, and had me sit under the dryer. She kept checking, and it still wasn't lightening. It was about 2 hours later when she finally took it off (because she was closing!) and you honestly couldn't tell there was a difference at all. She told me I could come back the next day and she'd do it again for free, and even after that there was barely a difference. Then I thought it's time to take matters into my own hands! |
No, it still isn't back how I want it :( I used to have long blonde highlighted hair, my hair was my best feature. Then, I went to beauty school and it was downhill from there. I mean my hair was probably damaged before but you couldn't tell, now it's reallyyyy damaged. Whenever my boyfriend finally gets home from work, I'm going to have him color it back brown then get it trimmed and leave it alone for a while. I long for my blonde hair again :(. Well I think it still looks cute! Much better than some people I know. I have some friends who went to beauty school as well.. The one girl was a gorgeous blonde and the last time I saw her, her hair was so fried it just felt uncomfortable to touch! It was like dry straw! |
