Job Interview Embarassment I went to a job interview yesterday but I dont think I got it. I even had trouble getting INSIDE the office. It was a double door entry so I turn the knob on one of the doors and pulled. It didn't open. I thought I was maybe trying the wrong door so I turned the other knob and tried to pull the door open. That didn't work either. So I thought maybe I had the correct door in the first place but didn't turn the knob far enough for it to open. So I tried the first knob again and I still wasn't inside the office. I stopped for a minute and thought what can I do, I know they are open. Then it dawned on me that I had to PUSH the door open. I did so and the receptionist which is 5 ft away from the door looked horrified at my difficulties and gave me a funny look. I tried to cover up my foolishness by saying "OH I was checking something" *nervous laugh*.... lol UGH how awkward |
Oh boy, how embarassing. Talk about not even getting your foot in tge door  . I hope the actual interview went better. Your embarassment brought one of my own back. I was interviewing for a job at an elementary school with the principal and assistant principal. I had a tickle on my neck and when I scratched it I felt something there. Very discretely (I thought) I plucked off what turned out to be a TICK crawling across my neck. Talk about embarassing. I really/truly did take a shower that morning. The only thing I can figure is that Boo the Boxer went outside (we live in the country) and brought one in and when I hugged Boo goodbye the tick got on me. I didn't get the job :) |
Ha ha, I got such a chuckle from your two stories I have to add my own job search embarrassment. When I was fresh out of esthetician school I was hitting all of the spas handing out my brand new little resume. One spa I hit had a step up when you enter that I didn't notice. So basically I opened the door, immediately tripped on the step and went flying/stumbling into the spa. Just in case that wasn't embarrassing enough and to cover the possibility that anyone might miss my entrance, I was wearing very 'clicky' shoes and the floor was tile so it was extremely loud. They did take my resume but never called. I'm sure they didn't want me anywhere near a wax pot.:p ProfessorPeteza- I bet you wouldn't have wanted that job anyway. The receptionist sounds like a b!tch. If she couldn't have brought herself to get up and help you she could have at least made a little joke to ease your embarrassment. |
lol omg girls I am so glad I am not alone in such situations. I am just greatful that it wasnt glass doors that I was dealing with. It could have been so much worse! ~V |
I love the embarrassing moments though. That's what seriously makes life living for. Like when I see someone else do something silly I just laugh and say, "you just made my day, thanks"! :p |

Lol thx for the laugh I've done that too. Hey maybe the receptionist put in a good word for you telling them you handle stressful situtaions well. |
Don't you love moments like that! We have to swipe our badge to get in revolving doors at my work. Yesterday my co-worker walked up to the doors with her car keys in her hand and was trying to figure out which key would open the revolving door! That was a Monday for you! I've done the opposite in that I have had my badge in my hand when trying to get into my house! Crazy! :confuse2: |

I used to live in S FL and I just had a thought. You know why you didn't think to push the doors? The buliding code states that doors must open out so you're probably so used to pulling doors open that doesn't even occur to you to push. See, it wasn't your fault at all!:D |
Thanks for the chuckles! Made me feel right at home! :) |
Maybe getting in the door was the first part of the interview. ;) You story did make me chuckle. |
HAHA sorry to laugh but it made me think of back in college.. i applied to this one department store and after the interview on the way out i hit a sign (was still really nervous) and i turned to look at the sign and in the corner of my eye i could see they were still watching and so i laughed at myself then as i was still walking i turned to look ahead and i hit the door!! ugh! omg after that i just pretty much ran out and yeah i didnt get the job either! lol :D:p |
Reminds me .. I was about 21 years old (20+ years ago!) and interviewing for a job at a bank. They gave me a mechanical pencil to fill something out, and they were about to give me some instructions and since I was nervous I sat there clicking the pencil repeatedly like it was a pen. Well, by the time I quit clicking & looked at the pencil the lead had come out about 3 inches long. Rather than just keep quiet and discretely break it off so I could write I laughed and said "look what I just did..."... the interviewer reached up & broke the lead off for me. No, I didn't get that job. LOL!! |
I seem to do that in many places, the push pull thing with the doors. It makes you feel really stupid, especially when there is a sticker saying to pull!!! |
Need to add to this! I got a little chuckle out of all of your stories so I would like to share one with you too! My BEST FRIEND went on a job interview and she was really nervous. She sat down for the interview and FARTED!!!! :lol tears:lol tears:lol tears *She didn't get the job:rolleyes: |
Everyone has embarassing moments even those giving the interviews and they should remember that. LOL I always have issues with push/pull doors all the time. I also hate when you are so used to answering the phone at work that you answer it that way at home. :p I once asked a guy may I have you? Doh!!! and then to top it off. My husband (at the time - ex now) came down to my work and I went to introduce him to someone. I was like so n so this is my husband Mike, Mike this is so n so. Everyone was like huh? My husbands name was Pat.... |

Okay, all of these stories have been so fun to read but your friend wins the prize for most embarrassing, hands down!:D |
so i guess this all leads to... dont trip, or else you wont get the job!! unless someone has a story where they did and they did get it :D |
I used to work in the nursing home industry. One day I was in a facility that was having their annual state inspection. This always make the entire staff very very nervous. I met with the male administrator who was on his last nerve. He told me one of the female state inspectors had gone in the restroom. It had about 3 stalls. She got STUCK in there - could not open the door - so had to crawl on the floor to get out. (EEEEWWWWWWWW!) I laughed all the way home. They passed their state inspection. |
