Open Office? Does anyone have any experience with Open Office, the free word processor, that is compatible with Microsoft Office? I just updated Java and a pop-up about it came up. Here's the link to the website if you aren't sure what I'm talking about...www: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite. It seems like a good deal, all the benefits of Microsoft Office without paying for the license. Apparently, you can open, edit, and save microsoft office documents and any documents you already have saved on your computer should open just fine with open office. I just bought a new computer and I was planning on buying Microsoft Office but this is seeming like a pretty good deal. |
I've been using Open Office for a few months now. I reformatted my computer and I have to send my boyfriend's hours into his boss every week on a time sheet that his boss already had made up. He made the spreadsheet for the hours in Microsoft Excel and I had completely forgot whenever I went to reformat. I went ahead and downloaded Open Office and it's awesome! It still opens the Microsoft Excel file and lets me edit it and everything. I'm assuming it will be the same way for what you're wanting. Whenever you download it, it will ask you what files you want to associate it with (IE: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, etc)! It's a really nifty program compared to the high prices of the other. |

Let me know how it goes for you! |
I'm just finally getting around to downloading the program..I've been busy with my best friends bridal shower today. BF just came home and so I was explaining it to him and he's pretty excited about it too. I'm going to try it out on my laptop and if it works, I will definitely be recommending it to everyone I know. |
My dad just told me about this and I downloaded onto my Macbook. So far it works really well and I was happy that I didn't have to spend all my money of the MS Office suite. |
I have been using Open Office for a year and a half and love it! |
