Ink on leather Last night I went purse shopping for something to wear with my chocolate brown dress for my cousin's wedding next weekend. I came home with the cutest purse I've ever seen... it's lime green leather with silver details. Anyway I brought it to work today and just noticed a large black ink line across the front :( It has not been near a pen since I got it, but I took all of the tags off so I doubt I can take it back (plus it was the only one there). Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the ink off without damaging the leather???? It's right in the front so it's very noticeable. I don't know how I could have missed it last night :( |
Hairspray always works well on lifting ink out of things, but I wasn't sure if it would discolor the leather, so I did a search. From what I read, it works well. Here's what one lady said: I put the hairspray on a q-tip and then went over the marks to avoid hurting too much of the leather. I let it sit for about 20 seconds and then in circular motions with a wet microfiber cloth I wiped it off, then I dried with a dry microfiber cloth and then wiped with a leather wipe to get the moisture back in. Amazingly it worked! Also, another person recommended this: Guardsman Store - Product Detail - Ink Remover for Finished Leather #374801 Good luck...hope this helps! |
Alcohol(the kind in your med cabinet) takes out ink as well, I just took an ink mark off my leather wallet |
That's great advice, thanks! From what I've read it looks like the best solutions are either hairspray, rubbing alcohol, or nail polish remover. I guess my big worry is taking the color out of the purse. |

I've used rubbing alcohol with terrifice results. |
Well, first I tried hairspray and there was ink all over the q-tip! I was so happy! And then it stopped coming out. I tried a magic eraser, and it did nothing. Then I tried nail polish remover (with acetone... I didn't see this first!) and it still didn't do anything. The line is much lighter now, almost not noticeable, but of course I notice it because I know it's there. When I'm out shopping tomorrow I'll try buying some rubbing alcohol. I don't know if it'll do much after nothing else is working, but I'll give it a try! |
