Parents, Please teach your kids to respect last night I took Recon for our usual walk. We walk to the gas station about 2 miles from here and get him a beef stick and me a water. He eats it and I drink and then we walk home. The walk there is mostly downhill. Well last night we are almost to the bottom of the hill when 2 kids (13 or 14-ish) come flying down the hill on skateboards. They thought that they were going to pass me and Recon on the sidewalk while still on thier skate boards. Recon had other ideas. It scared the hell outta Recon and he lunged toward the first kids skate board and got it. Left some big ol teeth marks in it. The second kid was so scared he fell off his. Now I should feel bad but I dont. That was plain rude. The kids then took off and when I got to the gas station they were in there. I know the attendants at the gas station really well. I went in and walked up to the kids at the counter and said " sorry that my dog scared you but you guys cant do that to dogs. your skate boards noise scares them and if you do it to the wrong dog, one is really going to hurt you. just be careful" Then the one younger looking one looks at me and says. "F-you, you need to shut up. I dont give a F about your dog. Next time Ill hit him" So I got a good look at both of them and talked to the cop who pulled into the parking lot as they were leaving. On my walk home I saw that the cop had stoped then and talked to the kids. So please, teach your kids respect. That was crap. I did nothing wrong. I walk the same sidewalk every single night and never have had a problem. |
wow.. a 13-14year old saying that? if that were my kid, i'd definately love to teach them some respect! i'm glad nothing happened to recon or you, and i'm glad that you actually said something about it! |
It took all I had to keep my cool with that kid. Im glad Recon didn't bite him. I thought he was going to. ALl the hair on his back was standing up. |
yeah, i have to say there is a problem here.... i have been caleld a b!tch several times from one little 4 YEAR OLD BOY  , i have even been HIT by students before |
OMG, by a 4 year old????????????? What the hell kinda home life does that kid have if he is using that kind of language??? |
he came from a low income sitution and he was VERY poor, his mom and dad were kinda scary and INSISTED that they dont use that language that it was the neighbors (yeah right) , when i asked why he would call me something that hurtful he said "thats what my dad calls my mom"....... as far as the child hitting me, he was foreighn.... and i was "giuding him" in line by holding his hand (he didnt want me to help him obvisouly) so he got mad and hit me, when we told him to tell his dad what he did he started speakign in farce and and the dad looks up and says "YOU HIT MY CHILD".... there was almost an interdepartmental war about this one, we all had to write statements (thank god i had lots of witnesses) |
Wow. I give you tons of props for what you do. I know that I couldn't do it. |
yeah it is tough....... fortunatly this stuff doesnt happen often.... it is INTERESTING work though, it takes a lot of creativity to get a child to do what you want when they dont want to do it..lol (and not make it seem obvious at the same time)........ i love my job though, soon i will be a credentialed teacher and will work with older kids (but i will miss my young ones :() i just saw one of my old kids at the movies the other day and it was so nice, everytime i go out in public it seems like i run into a parent/ kid that i know, my fiance just walks away :p and thank you for appreciateing hwom uch work it is, not many people do, my fiance sees it as "playing with kids for a few hours" |
Awwww. Its great that you enjoy what you do. Alot of people cant say that. They just go to work because they have to. |

When I was young, my mom and dad always knew where I was and what I was doing--and if I didn't follow that rule, well, there were serious consequences. I'm glad your baby didn't get hurt, and I'm glad he took a bite out of the kid's skateboard. :) |

The guy that I am dating right now also works in the jail here. I know what you mean about the sh**bags. He tells me stories about some of the guys that he has in jail and it just amazes me. To this day my dad still knows where I am and what I am doing. LOL |
I totally agree with you. If I were their parents and found out they would be disciplined, and if I knew who the person was they disrespected they would go with me in person, and apologize. However, on the flip side of this coin is disrespectful adults. I volunteer with children with special needs, and I can't tell you all that I've seen as far as disrespect by adults towards these children. My hubby and I were out for breakfast the other morning, and this women came in with her little boy who was blind and not speaking. He knew nothing more then to cry when he was mad, and screach when he was happy. Well this old women that was in the booth next to them started covering her ears, and shaking her head. I couldn't resist so I said to my husband that's why some old people belong in old age homes. I could tell his mom was really stressed out, and went to sit with them to see if I could help. We'll little Luke calmed down when we discovered what he wanted, and screached with delight when he got it. Me being me I started clapping and screaching with him. The women turned around and said to me "Oh, do you have one of them too?" One of them? One of what I asked? A retard for a child she responded. My poor husband knew it was on then. I told her the only retard I saw in the restaurant was her. I told her this child will never learn to hate, or be prejidous against those that are different then him. Something she had failed to learn. Her and her husband got up and left as the whole restaurant was giving her disgusted looks. Respect goes both ways, and although it doesn't apply in this situation I just had to vent. Sorry. |

Wow, that is unbelieveable! If that were MY child, I'd make him personally apologize to you. I can't believe he had the NEVRE to say that. I'm not as nice as you are. I would have cracked him and his friend. You have A LOT of patience and I admire you for that. I'm just glad you had Recon there to scare them. :p |
