Rick Warren hosts candidates I didn't know until after it was over that Rick Warren and his church, Saddleback Church was hosting the presidential candidates in Saddleback's Civil Forum tonight Saddleback Civil Forum Wish I had known, it could have been watched live. Did anyone see it?? I'm hoping the whole thing gets posted on youtube - right now it just looks like bits and pieces are out there. I think it's great that someone can bring these 2 together for a civil conversation and a place to discuss faith and the country's future |

I watched the whole thing I'm a news junkie. I watch anything that has to do with politics/economics/real news. (That means I don't watch the reports of what color Lindsay Lohan's hair is today.) McCain did better than I expected, and Obama did worse than I expected. It's worth watching. I was very surprised at how they both came across. McCain isn't anywhere near the "speaker" that Obama is, but he came across as a lot more genuine. There were questions asked that he seemed to ponder over, but then gave a reasonable answer. Obama wasn't anything like the great speaker we see in his pre-written speeches. He tried to jump on answers but stuttered a lot, and in some cases ended up not even answering the question that was asked. |

I was very impressed with McCain. He's a lot funnier than I would have thought too. You are so right, Obama really stuttered a lot...it surprised me. I thought both Obama and McCain were very likeable in this Q & A. *What became very obvious was that McCain has far more experience in politics than Obama. Of course we already know that. I enjoyed watching it and thought Rick Warren did a great job as host. Disclaimer *I'm not saying that McCain will make a better president, just stating what I thought came across from this meet up. |
We meant to watch this but forgot all about it but I'm sure we'll be hearing bits and pieces for days and days. I have the upmost respect for Rick Warren. |

I agree with your assessment of Rick Warren. This guy seems like just an awesome individual. I understand that after his book made him wealthy he stopped accepting payment from his church and also paid back everything he had ever been paid in salary by the church.:thumbup: |

I saw a tiny bit of it. Darn it I fell asleep. I think that was a great way to get the candidates together |

Can't help but notice the questions are delivered to each candidate nearly verbatim, with the same tone and inflection. It is refreshing to see at least the attempt to be unbiased from the moderator. The crowd is respectful and willing to laugh or applaud with either candidate equally. I think the difference in views between the candidates is drawn very clearly. Good Job Rick !! |
