I feel so Horribl!!
 

My #3 son Lincoln got hurt walking a dog ( Golden Retriever) last night. Apparently the dog took off and dragged him about 8 feet. He did not tell me he was hurt. I was talking to my oldest son when he came in and Link tells me he was going to go upstairs to watch TV. I went to go clean up the front porch and the neighbor girl comes over and asked me if Link is OK I had no clue what she was talking about:confused: he did not tell me he got hurt so I called him down and his little chin was scraped and bruised and he showed me his hands that got scraped up too. I cleaned up all his scrapes and put medicated spray on him and bandaged him He said he was fine but wanted a Tylenol for a head ache. I gave it too him and checked over him real well and asked him if he hurt anywere. He said no and He went to bed. then this morning when he came down I asked him how he was and he asked for a tylenol saying his head hurt, I went to give him the pill and OMG his right arm and fingers were swollen:eek: like hotdogs!! and his wrist area looked funky like it was curving a bit. i just knew it was broken!! So I rush him to the ER and they were all amazed he was just saying his head hurt because just looking at it they said it looked broken. Well sure enough he broke both bones in his arm:eek: They couldn't get over him not being in pain but that is how he has alway'a been ,even getting stitches, he doesn't flinch. You only know he was hurt cause you see the blood. I did not notice his arm looking deformed last night when I checked him over. His youngest brother has broken his arm 2 times and Boy he sure let you know he was hurt and you could tell right away. I feel so bad over looking this last night and they could have treated him sooner IF I had only known he was hurt this bad! The ER doctor told me not to beat myself up over it, and that my son had a high tolerance for pain, it happens sometimes, people hurting themself bad but they don't feel it. I feel like such a bad mommy!!! How could I not know that his little arm was broken last night:confused: I should of checked him over better!! He goes to the bone Doctor on monday and they put him on Tylenol with Codeine despite him telling the Doctor he just needed the cast and he would be fine:(

So sorry about your son's accident. Hope he heals quickly and completely. Don't beat yourself up over this...sometimes these injuries are not that noticeable until the swelling sets in. He must have a huge pain tolerance to not have complained about it. What a trooper!!

I had my golden retriever drag me once. I was 12 years old and he wanted to go play with another dog, so he bolted and off I went. I didn't break my arm, but I ended up with a ganglion cyst and had surgery 3 years later.

How old is your son? Sorry he hurt himself! I guess it's good though that he has a high pain tolerance level.

Lincoln is 12. He has ADHD and is usually the one needing stitches out of my 4 boy's. He's gotten hurt so many times and you wouldn't know it at all if it wasn't for all the blood:rolleyes: Me on the other hand, I get a paper cut and you would think my finger fell off!

I just feel I should of noticed the deformity of his arm last night, my youngest son broke his arm 2 times now and you could tell right away, it looked like a goose neck! Also he screamed his butt off!! That is how Link's arm looked this morning and he was so swollen! no tears from him! I feel like I am a horrible parent that he went 10 hours like this till this morning!

Sorry to hear about your son, Don't feel bad that happened to my brother, my sister was suppossed to be watching him and he fell off the porch and just went in and went to bed. No one knew until the next morning. You are not a bad Mom!!!

You're not a bad mom! The signs weren't there yet and he wasn't complaining so there would be no reason to be concerned. At least you weren't like my family when I really had broken my hand rollerblading and they didn't believe me!

Thanks for the kind words. The nurse and Doctor in the ER said that sometimes it is hard to tell if a bone is broken depending on the brake type. The also said that he could of done more damage sense he was still using his arm. They had to ask him not to move it and keep it on a pillow till they wrapped it up, so they saw for themselves his high pain tolerance. and they commented on it plenty of times to make me feel better. I still feel so bad:( about it because I know from past experience he doesn't complain when he gets injuries. I am really going to be on my guard with any further injuries this boy gets for now on!
