Vitamin Issue Hi guys, about a month ago I bought a bottle of Women's One a-day vitamins. I will admit I am terrible when it comes to taking care of myself. I don't eat right at all and I very seldom exercise. I could sit here all day and eat candy and be perfectly happy. I know this is bad and I decided I was going to try and change my bad habbits. I'm 27 and need to grow up a bit and stop with my candy obsession, haha! I'm not doing great but I am eating less junk, lol! Anways, I wanted to start taking a vitamin and decided to try women's one a-day. I have no idea whats wrong but I can't take these things. They make me vomit. I'm sorry for being gross but they seriously make me sick. I was taking them after I ate breakfast and then I tried dinner time and I still can't take them. I was nervous they were bad and even took them back to the vitamin store and explained what was happening. They were super nice and gave me another bottle to try but the same thing happened. I find this so odd. Has anyone else experienced this? If anyone recommends a good vitamin please let me know. :) |
It could be that you can't tolerate the antioxidents. Maybe just buy a small bottle of calcium first. If you can take that, then buy a small bottle of C, then A then E, then B and so on till you know what you can take and what you can't. |

zinc? i'm not sure if they might have zinc in them, but zinc makes me super nauseous. |
I had that happen when I first started taking suppliments. I kept taking them though and it became lessser and lesser untill I didnt do it anymore. Its like I had to build up a tolerance to it |

This is good info for me, too! My son gets sick when he takes vitamins and he really needs them. |
The iron in vitamins can do that. I suppose just about anything in them could. You might want to try a different brand, mixture or form. Have you tried something powdered like Reliv? I think Yorkiedaze had a great idea for you though. :) |
Thanks for the help everyone. :) |

Hi, no this was the only one I tried. I think I'm going to try another brand and see what happens. Thanks for the help. ;) |
Maybe try cutting the tablet in half and then swallowing! I take One-A-Day and they get stuck in my throat sometimes:eek: Good luck to you on your path towards a healthy life;) |
When I first started taking the same vitamins I had a bit of the same issue. Some people need to take it on a full stomach while others need to do it on an empty one. Try either and see what happens. |
My mom takes the women's one a day and when I tried them I had an allergic reaction to them. So now, I take Centrum chewables. I chose them because I hate swallowing pills and they were the only adult vitamins that are chewable. At first, people would tell me that Centrum was for seniors but, my bestfriend who is the same age as me (I am 22 btw) went to the doctor and they perscribed Centrum vitamins for her. I really like them! I have noticed that it makes me eat more (which is good because I don't eat as much as i should). Maybe you should try them. They maybe a little more expensive and they don't come in the really big bottles but, they are really good. And orange flavored :p |
My mom used to get nauseous from multi vitamins and had to take them right before she went to sleep. I know that's risky because you don't want to be up sick in the middle of the night but it always worked for her. |

I can't take vitamins. I have no idea what I'm going to do when we have kids and I have to take pre-natals. They either make me nauseated or they make me so constipated the only thing i can do is stop taking them. My dr even gave me samples of pre-natals because they include a stool softener and I still couldn't handle them. I don't have any suggestions but i sure can sympathize. |
I decided the same thing earlier this summer! Want to hang out???? I would be perfectly happy to sit around and eat candy all day too!! I tried to take those women's vitamins - centrum or whatever from the grocery store- too but they made me sick as well. In June I talked to this gal I know who takes the USANA vitamins and she suggested I try them. Well they are fairly pricey but very good quality but I haven't had any more problems since I switched to them. Just a thought! Good luck! |
I think the reason would be that your body cannot handle the change so sudden or what another person said, the antioxidants in them. I don't know...but that happened to me also. My mom bought this big bottle of pomegranate juice to take a shot of every day. It's really strong and supposed to be good for you, well after the first 3 days of taking it, after i would take it i would get really nauseas. I would feel like throwing up and still feel it there in my throat. So i had to stop taking it, i guess it was just too strong for me or something. But im like you, im horrible at taking care of myself. I don't take vitamins, and i really have tried to but i can't stick to it. I'm supposed to take calcium pills cause i have scoliosis and anemia but I forget to take them everyday, i can't be on birth control cause of that, ill forget to take them, medication, etc. I always forget so they're not affective:rolleyes: I need to be more responsible with that lol My dad even gets frustrated and got me calcium chews, and powders but i just leave them there after using them a couple times |
Hello, The One a Day weight smart pills made me sick, especially first thing in the morning. I'm doing better with GNC Women's vitamins. They are a little smaller and seem to go down better. Or I used to take childrens chewable vitamins, lol. I figured something was better than nothing. Whitney |
This has worked for me........... I have always had a problem taking vitamins because they made me nauseous. Tried morning, night, empty, full stomach. But I recently decided I HAD to figure out a way. I now actually take 4 huge pills two times a day with no problems! (BTW - I FEEL MARVELOUS. I do need the supplements - I'm not getting younger, but I feel it now.) Anyway, what works for me is that I take them with a small glass of Skinny Cow Chocolate Milk. The milk is very creamy and coats my mouth and my stomach. I no longer taste the gross vitamins as they get stuck on my tongue; I no longer burp up disgusting vitamin taste later on; and I no longer have any stomach upset at all. I take them in the morning and at night. (Women to Women brand on line if anyone wants to try them.) Good luck - Vitamins are no longer my nemisis!! |
Nothing beats eating right, not even vitamins but junk food once in awhile isn't that terrible at your age.The old saying "You are what you eat" is so true, lots of fruit and veggies and throw away the vitamins....now not completely. A good multi vitamin is important if your body can absorb it. Also some people may be lacking in a certain vitamin and then it might be needed but that could also be made up for by eating food high in that vitamin. Good Luck, you look like the picture of health. |
I have trouble with vitamins too! I get really bad headaches and just sick to my stomach! I actually started taking kid's vitamins. The Flintsones chewables, I know someone is going to laugh about that! My Dr. actually suggested it and when I mentioned it at work, one of my co-workers takes them as well! I did try Shakley vitamins for a few months and they didn't bother me, but they are pretty expensive. I need to go to Costco now and get my Flinstones again! |
I meant to say, I totally understand the candy thing too! I still say chocolate should be one of the important food groups! |
I haven't read all the replies.... but, vitamins always make me sick. Two things you can try. Take childrens vitamins, but take more and spread it out throughout the day. This what a doctor suggested to my daughter or... you can take them at bedtime right before you fall asleep...this is what I do. That way I sleep through any upset tummy stuff. Good Luck |
