Ok, all you seasoned travelers My fiance (that's still weird) and I are getting married in December and we're having a hard time deciding where to go. He would love to go skiing, but I don't ski. I would love to go somewhere warm and just hang out, but that sounds incredibly boring to him. So, I've done a little research and I think we should go to Hawaii or Cancun. It's warm, they have beaches but there is also lots of other stuff to do. I guess I'm just looking for some advice from people who have been to both places. Oh, his mom has a timeshare that we can stay in for free in Cancun, but if we choose Hawaii it will cost us $800 on her timeshare to stay there. Does anybody have any advice. Also any websites that you liked when planning your trip? TIA! |
Me and hubby have been to Mexico once and Hawaii twice (Maui and the Big Island). Mexico is cheaper and less travel time, both of which are nice. Hawaii is absolutely stunning, feels safer, and you don't have the food issues/food safety that you have w/ Mexico. We liked The Big Island more than Maui. :) |
I LOVE Hawaii. Mexico is nice but you just don't feel as secure, and always worry about the food and water. I LOVE the big island, and there is so much to do there. Good luck!! |
There is no comparison between Cancun and Hawaii. Cancun is definitely cheaper, but it is very commercial and they beauty cannot compare to Hawaii at all. Of course I'm a little biased, so I would ask which island? Maui is my personal favorite followed by the Big Island of Hawaii. Kauaii is beautiful but boring unless you are a very outdoor active individual into hiking/kayaking/golfing every day (and there is no nightlife if you aren't at a major hotel resort as the shops and restaurants all close really early). Oahu is not my favorite, but still head and shoulders above Cancun and definitely worth $800 for a timeshare rental........ Plus an added bonus of Hawaii would be that in late December you are likely to see whales, especially on Maui or the Big Island...... My vote would definitely be for Hawaii as a honeymoon. Much more special than Cancun!!! |
Thanks for the advice guys. I also like that we wouldn't need to get passports for HI. We only have four months and I've heard passports take at least that long and there's no guaratee if you pay for the rush service. Thanks again. |
I love Mexico, but Cancun is probably one of the last places I'd choose to stay. As others said, it is very commercialized and is not at all a good representative of the stunning Mexican culture. (Think spring break from hell). So in your case I'd choose Hawaii - there is so much to do! Last time I was there (Maui) I scuba dived, biked down a volcano, took a surfing lesson, snorkeled, went whale watching and actually spent very little time laying around on the beach. (My then fiance also couldn't STAND just laying around!) The drawback to Hawaii is that it is extremely expensive. Congrats on your pending marriage! |
We went to Punta Cana and also Cancun I love the worm weather and my DH likes to keep busy. Their were activities everyday at the pool and the beach and shows at night. He found plenty to do everyday to keep himself busy. And if you go to Cancun they have really good shopping and entertainment outside of the resorts. We book through apple vacations. |
I have been to both Hawaii and Cancun. It is true that Cancun is all tourists the only Mexicans are the people that work there, but the beaches are beautiful! Hawaii is also beautiful the beach is a bit rougher though. Very fascinating. You do also feel safer. This may sound biased since I just got back but have you considered Puerto Rico. It is beautiful, there are lots of things to do and see. It is very historic and the beach is wonderful. There is El yunque which is a rain forest you can go hiking in. All together its a great place. Wherever you go you will have a wonderful time. Between Hawaii and Cancun I would go to Cancun but make sure to rent a car and drive to the capital and visit the ruins. Hope you have fun :) |
