Home Phone/ Cell Phone??? Ok, I've been thinking lately about cancelling our home phone cause no one ever uses it. I have a cell, Dan does, and Lauryn does. No one really calls the home phone anymore. So I was thinking...what's the point in paying 62.00 a month for nothing? Has anyone else thought about cancelling their home phone. I've been trying to think of the pros and cons on it. Any ideas? Our cell phones always have a ton of minutes left over each month too. Seem like the only other calls we get at home are sales calls, even though we are on the do not call list. |
I have been thinking the same thing lately. The only downside is that my cell phone sometimes is a little hard to have a 2 way conversation...if both people speak at the same time, neither one can hear. But on the other side, most of the people I know wind up calling me on my cell as I am always out, be it running errands or in the garden. I even forward my cell to the house because that is really the only number that I give out. My sister just cancelled her home #. |
I got rid of my land line over 2 years ago. I have never missed it, and we are saving a lot of money! Go for it. |
I want to get rid of my land line too. The only reason I don't is because it's the only way we have access to internet. We are out in the country, and high speed has not made it up here yet. |
We do not have a home phone anymore. Havent in a few years. We use our cell for everything. Just make sue you have a plan with enough min. to cover everyone you talk to. WE ahvent had any problems. I like not having to worry about missing calls cause the only number i have to give out is my cell. |
What if your cell phone dies? If you have another one in the house, great. If not, you could be SOL. I can't get rid of my home line entirely because it is needed for my security system and DSL Internet. I have cut the service down to the bare minimum, got rid of voicemail etc. and just forward it to my cell. That saved me a bunch. |
We don't have a home phone either. Both my hubby & i have to have cell phones & we have cable internet. no one really calls us anyway except for our parents, but for the most part it works for us. |
We didnt have a landline here at my new apartment until a few months ago. We thought it'd be in handy if we were to ever have to call 911 and not be able to give our address...with a landline, the address would show up automatically, with a cell phone, it gives the a possible area of where you're calling from, at least that's how it works from here...it gives the nearest tower from where you're calling. Plus it comes in handy when I lose my cell phone and have to use the landline to call it and follow the ring :p |
I'm in the same boat at Gracie2006...we've cut ours down to the $15 a month or whatever it is, bare, bare minimum just so we can have Internet, etc.... But I NEVER use my home phone, maybe once a week, if that...:rolleyes: |
No land line here either. I've never had any problems and it has worked out great. |
We don't have a landline either. Our internet is through our cable company. I've never missed our housephone. I am very careful to always make sure my cell is charged. |
I haven't had a landline for years. As mentioned above, make sure you have enough minutes on your cell, though. If you need your landline for a security system or for DSL internet, get bare-bones service, which I can't imagine would cost any more than about $25/month. |

I don't have a home phone, just a cell. That is the way most of my family is. My mom however, only has a cell because I added her on to my plan. She still keeps her land line in Minneapolis. When I buy a house in a few monts I WILL have a land line! ****A year ago when the 35W bridge collapse happened there was no cell phone coverage available in the twin cities or surrounding suburbs. My cousins husband was a survivor and for hours after the tragedy took place there was no way for his family to know if he was ok until his wife saw him in an ambulance on the news! No one could reach my aunts, uncles and cousins, but we could call my mom at home. Her house became sort of a hub for getting news about Karge and his progress. **** My advise is to keep your land line! Have all the extras (caller ID, 3 way calling) removed and pay for the peace of mind that if something unexpected happens that you will have a way to communicate. |
We only have cell phones. No one called us on our home phone so we got rid of it years ago |
When we moved to AZ 3yrs ago, we never got a landline - just our 2 cells. And, we really don't miss the landline.... |
We keep ours for emergencies only (no long distance, voicemail, call waiting) so only $7.02 a month! |
I like the security of having a land line also so we got cable service that is only 30.00/mo. |
We have been thinking of switching our cable/internet/telephone to a different provider, and my roommates are considering dumping the telephone altogether. Personally I like it for long-distance calls. It's cheaper than the cell and I have friends who live in other provinces that I can talk to for over an hour at a time. Right now we have free long distance on our landline so it works really well. But if we get rid of the landline I'd be really worried about my cell always dying! Also in some parts of my house for some reason I get terrible reception. I can be sitting in one spot and go from 4 bars of service to being disconnected completely, without even moving! |
I have a home line bcoz I am using DSL. So, we have to have it. But I have the lowest monthly plan that hardly cost anything...I THINK since hubby takes care of those bills.... So, I would say..if you don't need a land line for your internet connection. Go ahead and cancel it! |
I still have my land line - I really hate giving anyone my cell phone number that I really don't want calling me at any point day or night. This helps from ever getting pesky calls - even though I'm on the Do Not Call List. I have a built in answering machine - so no fees for that and the only extra I ever had was call waiting - but I dumped that, because who knows the last time I needed it. I did just see the most interesting informicial this past weekend for a product that does everything a land line does, but ti hooked thru you computer for little cost. I didn't watch but a few minutes. The only down to it, I think is I only have a laptop. Here's this thing magicJack |
I haven't had a home phone for almost 5 years..just my cell phone. The only negative is if your cell phone breaks...but that's been a rare occurance |
We don't have a landline either. We went to Vonage for awhile, but had alot of problems and we just did away with it about a year ago. We don't miss it at all! Our internet is through our cable. |
We still have our landline and DSL. When I told the guy that I should probably get rid of our landline phone and just use our cells, he said that if everyone did that, they would have to raise their DSL rates. So it looks like either way we'd be paying for it. |
only cell phones here too, the only problem i ever had was when i had to call 911 and a message asked me if i really wanted to dial that # to press a number i freaked out because i didnt hear what number i had to push and ran to my friends to call. |
No land line here.... We recently moved and just kept only our cells we love it we save money and if we don't want to talk we turn it off or don't answer.....YAY |
You know I never thought of the 911 thing. I'm keeping mine...just gonna do what you guys said and take all the extra's off. Thanks so much |
