Good thread! I just finished reading Paradise Lost, but that was for class, so it doesn't count :p I bought Anna Karenina a couple of months ago and now that class is over, Im hoping to be able to finish it..its kind of intimidating, though! I tried reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being because I had heard so many good things about it, but I didn't enjoy it very much at all. Anyone read that one? |
I love book threads :) I'm almost finished reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. If you like historical fiction, this one is great. It's a timeslip novel, where a girl from present day France is living out the conclusion of events that began long ago in the medieval ages in a past life, and the author is telling both stories simultaneously. It's about the search for the grail, and the terrors of the crusades as they tried out stamp out the Cathars. Fascinating book, I can't wait to read the end! :thumbup:Two thumbs up. |

If you do get into it- let me know. Maybe I'll give it another chance. Since you're a classic girl have you ever read Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead? That's my favorite book of all time. Love it! |
What a Fun Thread I enjoy seeing what others are reading. I just finished The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova...it was a great read! I usually have one audible book I'm listening too and another book that I'm reading. I'm currently listening to The Subtle Knife (Philip Pullman). The book I just began reading is Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. It is a recently discovered novel written by a Jewish author who died in Auschwitz. It takes place during the war. |

I have been in a book club since April. The first 3 books we've read, I haven't cared much for. The last one was pretty good. Light reading. It's called "Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe". By Jennie Shortridge. "When she learns that her college sweetheart husband has been seeing another woman, Mira Serafino’s perfect world is shattered and she wants no one, least of all her big Italian family, to know. She heads north—with no destination and little money— stopping only when her car breaks down in Seattle. She takes a job at the offbeat Coffee Shop at the Center of the Universe, where she’ll experience a terrifying but invigorating freedom, and meet someone she’ll come to love: the new Mira." you should try it |
I've been reading a series of books by Alexander McCall Smith. The books are "The #1 Ladies Detective Agency. They take place in Africa,(Botswana)....they are great, I am on book number nine.....a movie is due out on the series. I highly recommend this series.....(My sweet husband turned me onto this series, his passion is reading) and acting. |

What's funny is that I've tried to read another of her books several times- Atlas Shrugged- and couldn't get into it so I guess you never know. I'll give it another shot one of these days. I think sometimes you just have to be in the right mood. |
I am reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - FANTASTIC!!!! |
