Call me BeastMaster I rescued a squirrel baby that fell out of a tree. Or rather one of the students here found it and I am now taking care of the little fella. He made it through the night and is eating but not too much and he's not extracting. I'm concerned about that. I'm contacting a wildlife rescue place locally to help me out, I know I need to get him ready to be released by 6 months of age as that's sort of when they hit juvenile and turn a little coocoo! |
Squirrel Hello, I found a baby squirrel that had fallen from a tree. I called my local pet shop and found out exactly what to do for it. I used a 10 gal fish tank for it to stay in. You must put the squirrel on a heating pad. It needs the warmth. You must keep it warm. Also put a little towel for it to cuddle in, but make sure you always check on it. Make sure it is not smothering itself. This is important. I bought formula to feed it. I'm really not sure what it was now. It has been a few years since I did this. But I think it was kitten formula. I feed it with and eyedropper. After it eats you must, must rub it's tummy back and forth. You see that a little baby like that is not able to poop on it's own, so you just take your finger and rub it's belly back and forth. It should help him poop. It stimulates it's system. This is a must. Make sure you keep it warm, and always keep checking on it. Unfortunately when you find them out of their nest it is because their moms threw them out. Something is usually wrong with it, so the mom does this. This is instinct. Hopefully yours just maybe fell. I hope this helps you. Good Luck and God Bless You. You are a Wonderful Person to take this Little Helpless Baby.:goodluck: |
Aww, do you have pics of the little guy. I dont think I have ever seen a baby squirrel before. I hope that he starts going to the bathroom and that he will be okay! |
Luckily, I saved a kitten this way too and the care is almost the same. I've rubbed his tummy but I'm not seeing easy release yet :( |
You know we are desperate for pictures!:D Good luck with the little guy!:) |
I've never done it, but I've heard to rub their bum with warm washcloth or water to stimulate pottying. Good Luck to you. And you are wonderful for trying to help this baby. |
We have POO! I'm so happy I did a happy dance at work. I got some pictures, I'll get them up shortly :) |

Ok, this was before our last feeding and since he's had a cotton ball bath and a new cloth to wrap up in. He's laying on a hot water bottle for warmth. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/10...3/DSC05176.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/10...3/DSC05177.jpg He does look like a rat but I assure you, this is Ernie the happy squirrel |
