Beauty advice needed Ok, I am Italian. I am also Irish. What this means is I was blessed with thick dark (almost black) hair, and glow in the dark white skin. Even the hair on my legs is thick and dark. My skin is so light that even after I shave you can still see the hair. Even though my legs feel silky smooth, you can still the part of the shaft that didn't get shaved off under my skin. So I have polks-dots everywhere. Well, I decided to have them waxed. All that did was leave red polka-dots instead of black polks-dots. It looked kind of like I had the measels. What's a girl supposed to do? I don't want to look like the polka-dot princess. Because my skin is so fair, I do not tan. I turn red which fades into kind of a peachy color but that's about it. I have tried self/sunless tanners. They turned my skin from glow in the dark white to flourescent orange. Even the lightest ones. I am just finally losing weight (I think, my pants are all fitting looser) and I'd like to start beautifying myself up again. |
Although I've only tried spray-on sunless tanning where you stand in a booth, have you tried sunless airbrush tanning? Maybe that will give you the color you want. I think they can customize the color.:) Sobe Tan by Fabiola - TURBO AIRBRUSH TANNING by Fabiola Trujillo |
try exfoliating really well and mixing you self tanner 1/2 and 1/2 with lotion it works for me :) |
Have you ever used Vleet? I really like it. |
Don't give up on waxing based on the red dots. That is very normal in any kind of skin when you first start waxing. After a few times you wont get that. Sugaring is another alternative that is a bit more gentle. |
Ya know, sometimes being a woman just SUCKS. I wonder too if maybe you should try a depilatory instead of shaving - of course, depil. don't last all that long either, but you wouldn't get irritation. If you shave, the self tanning would help - but yes, exfoliating first helps - and still, the right color can be tough to get and end up splotchy, it takes some practice. I used to wax and I just couldn't take the pain - but the results are nice; you could put some soothing stuff on the "bumps" right after you're done and should get rid of them - usually they sell some stuff right at the salon, but you could find it cheaper online probably. :) |
Have you considered laser hair removal. We do it at my docs office. The darker the hair the better the response! You would be a great candidate. Wish you were in Indy, I'd hook you up! |
Veet and Nair, etc don't work. :( The hair is too thick. If I leave it on long enough to even start to work on the hair, it is way past the recommended time and it starts to really irritate my skin. I HAVE thought about laser hair removal, but I've heard it is painful and expensive??? |

Ok, I want the truth, how many of ya'll who read this got a rubber band and snapped it on some part of your body? I did - on my leg. I could probably tolerate that. The $$ part of it, I don't know if I could tolerate that right now, but it is something to think about and possible save for. |
I've had my armpits done several times. If I can handle it, anyone can:D |
Laser Hi .... I know how you feel... I am Greek with dark hair and light skin. In the winter I am very pale but I do tan in the summer time. I opted to go the Laser route on my bikini line and underarm area and I'll tell you I haven't shaved those areas in years. It is like there was never hair there and no spots or dots showing under the skin. It is truly amazing!! I think I needed three visits on each area but it was well worth it. I can tolerate pain if it is for beauty. You can also use Emla cream before your treatment (to numb the area). Anna |
Spots I forgot to mention, there is a product available online and at Sephora stores called Tendskin. It works so well on razor bumps and irritation. A little pricey but usually the irritation will diminish within a couple days of using it. When it comes to beauty products, I've tried almost everything available. Anna |
Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal.. that is actually permanent.. laser will come back over some time..and you will need to get it touched up. i highly recommend Electrolysis.. at least save up for it-you do it in sessions(just like laser) but it will never grow back! check it out! ;) and i would DEFINITLEY get a CUSTOM AIR BRUSH TAN.. NO ORANGE LOOK! it is completely natural looking!! i highly recommend it! Go to someone who sprays you.. no misting machines, etc. If the person has a good product and knows what they are doing.. it will be the best thing ever!! :):) it will make you feel fabulous.. promise! ;) |
