The enzyme, which is actually bacteria, "eats" the protein in the urine, which causes the smell. That's why you saturate the surface and let it dry naturally because it can take several hours for the protein to be eaten. After you do this, find a good grout sealer so nothing will absorb into the grout. Make sure grout is clean before sealing, instructions for cleaning are usually available where sealers are sold. Sealing might have to be done yearly in heavily washed areas. |
