car savvy people HELP The other day I was driving home and my check engine light came on. I noticed a couple days before my car started idling a little rough. Now you can turn it on, but it will stall out and it idles really rough. The rpm's also go dip down really low after you rev the engine. To me it sounds like I need a tune up... what do you think? |
It is probably an idle sensor of some sort. Autozone (if you have them) has a computer you can hook up and get the reading on which sensor is bad. If you want to tackle changing it out yourself. |

Get it to a garage The engine light is an indicator for some type of problem. If you take it to a dealer or a mechanic you trust, wont rip you off (especially if your a girl) then they will put it up on the computer ,and the code will tell them the problem. That does'nt mean you have to have it fixed at the same place. But do it sooner than later. My mechanic went on my car a few years back, and it was about to blow, due to the fact I waited too long. Good Luck, and make sure the mechanic is trusting, and if able let a "male" take it to the garage. ;) |

I believe if the car is less than 5 years old there is a federal warranty on one of the sensors that usually goes bad. It has something to do with the emissions control stuff. So first ask a dealer about that. I think you still have to pay for the test but the part and abor are free. |
Sounds like the mass airflow sensor. Generally when the check engine light comes on, there is either an issue w/ the sensor or electrical. Go to a Napa or similar store and they can put it on their PC (usually for free) and tell you what it is. If it is something they sell there, most sensors are a quick fix and they will usually come out and install it for you.:) Let us know what the diagnosis is. |
