To quit smoking.. again anyone else here in the process of quitting? I had been smoke free for 4 stinking years.. and for some stupid reason I started again while at work. I was smoking on my breaks, probably just because its sociable. What I should have done was hung out with the smokers and not put one in my mouth. I thought I had control, I thought that I was still not a smoker.. guess what I am a smoker again. i get the cravings and I just have to have them. Soooo now I'm going to quit again. I bought my nicotine patches, thats what got me through it the first time. Wish me luck, and is there anyone that wants to walk down this road with me? Moral support is great. |
Ugh I wish:mad:! Good luck though! |
No, I can't walk down that path again...I am an ex-smoker. But I can offer encouragement...you've done it before, you can and will do it again! Best of luck, I'm pulling for you!!! |
... I took a break while I was pregnat ... but me and DH both do ... again ... LOL |
I'm a Quitter! I quit for Ten Years! and started back...after five years I am quitting again. I am six weeks in and haven't slipped once. Last time I used the gum but this time I decided to just Cowboy Up and quit cold turkey. However you decide to do it I support you. You know you can do it because you have done it before. My motivation was getting mad at the fact that I was a slave to the addiction, it made decisions for me that I wouldn't have made for myself. I'll be ready anytime you need some support. |
I am going to do it.....AGAIN! I had quit for 7 years, went through a divorce and started up again. I have been smoking for 10 yrs now...I can't believe I did such a STUPID thing! I am so angry at myself! We are headed to Maine Wednesday, this is my target day to quit.....FOREVER! I just became a first time gramma and want to be around for a very, very long time to enjoy my grand-daughter. I am in the middle of the book The easy way to stop smoking. I am going to finish it before I leave for Maine. My daughter quit after reading the book...If she can do it....so can I! Good Luck! |
I can offer encouragement...I quit for 7 years and started again and then quit again-12 years ago. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Try this, put the same amount of money in a jar that you pay for ciggarettes. Hopefully this given a financial incentive to quit. But seriously, you can do it! :) |
I'm so sorry you lost your quit. I quit nearly 3 years ago now, thought I was in the clear. Thank you for sharing. I needed the reminder that the demon can always come back if I let him. There are some great online support groups, you should look into joining one. I know that is one reason why I have kept my quit, as each anniversary I can go in there and post proudly! Something else that helped me was stopping hanging out with the smokers at work. You can go to lunch etc. with them, but go for a walk instead of hanging out for the smoking part. Good luck with your new quit! |
I decided to quit smoking last year and went with the Chantix pill. I have tried the gums, patches and whatnot...none worked...I really didn't have faith in the Chantix working either so I kept smoking, putting back my quit date to the 1st of Feb. However, I didn't make it...I ended up quitting January 16th. The first couple of months I did think about a cigarette but not enough to pick one up...now, I don't even think about it. I smoked just shy of 20 years!! Now the bad news, the side effects for me were horrible...I was very nauseated for about 30-45 minutes after taking the pill and tired wasn't it...I was exhausted! I am sure my other medical problems played a part...but in the end...I am no longer a smoker...I only took the pills for 2 1/2 months. So...maybe it is an option...I got everyone on them at work...a few didn't go through with it because of the nausea. But the ones that did stick it out no longer smoke. |
Sorry...wasn't done, wanted to wish you Good luck! |
I am here for you. I quit a couple of months ago and a couple of weeks later went back. I am quitting again next Monday when my daughter goes back to school and I have the house too myself. I am using chantix but I also have some patches |
Almost 1 year for me :D:D:D:D on August 17th it will be one year for me:) I had the help of chantix!I have to say that I don't think I could have done it with out that help. I do know that you REALLY have to be ready to quit. I was :) I don't have and urge to smoke at all. I love being smoke free. I wish anyone Quiting the best of luck I am here if anyone needs anything extra for encouragement. |

I quit on Jan 23rd with Chantix and I really feel like if I can do it anyone can. I honestly didn't even want to quit. Smoking is such an awful addiction but I loooved smoking. I knew it was so bad for me and was not socially acceptable and made me smell but still... I just really liked it- I guess that's part of the addiction. I am so much happier now without it though. You can do this! BTW, the Chantix did make me feel sick for the first week but it was worth it. |

But the little that did happen was much better than smoking. Now I just need to loose all the weight I gained after. |

I was sick pretty much at least the first month. I have noticed that most men don't seem to have the symptoms as bad as the women. I look at it this way, I started to smoke to be cool and can remember getting sick from the cigarettes...so this time it was just the reminder as to why I shouldn't have started. I was not in the quitting mindframe...as long as you take the pills as directed..they will work...they work with the endorphins in your brain...I say go for it! |
Thanks everyone, the support here is great. I know how nice it felt to have won out over the demon nicotine before and i know I can do it again. I didn't start the patch today, I finished off what was left of my pack of cigs though and i'm not getting anymore. tomorrow morning first thing i'm slapping that patch on and not looking back. |
good luck sweetie,, i tried a few months back,, the chantix worked, but i slipped up and had one,, then another and it was all over.. now im smoking again like a jerk.. i will stop soon though, just not ready as of yet.. but you can do it... you can do it,, you can do it |
So................................how's it going? I found it really hard to quit and not have a pack in the house...just in case...so I bought a pack...never opened it...but it was there with me til the end...I swear it was like losing my best friend. Wishing you tons of luck, my friend...good luck kicking the habit in the butt. |
Wow! You are all to be admired. Very strong women. Soooo impressed. Joanne |
My Dad smoked for 54 years, never once quitting even while sick, his doctor prescribed Chantix to him, he has been smoke free for almost 2 years. This stuff must be amazing as my Dad was a Serious Smoker. |

The best advice I can offer is to NEVER quit quitting. It took me many tries...but a week after my father passed (from natural causes)...I just knew it was time. I had smoked for over 20 years, and as much as I loved it...I also hated it!! Well...it has been 6 years this past Febuary since I quit cold turkey. I made a deal with my maker that if he/she helped me to quit smoking...that I would die a non smoker. And I plan to keep that promise!! |
Just wanted to say good luck!! I'm a smoker and this post motivated me to quit. I'll do it with you!! |
I have been trying to quit too. So far I have had one cigarette since June 9th. But I am not gonna lie, its been REALLY hard to quit!!! I find myself "jones'n" for one sometimes in the worst way. Since I have quit I had a tragic and sudden close family death and then 2 weeks later I hear my dad's cancer may be back (he had stage 3B hodgekins lymphoma, he went into remission this past december). UGH! Anyways, I am really glad you posted this topic, because I was feeling alone in this! But, I do have a tip I can share that has helped me. I have a jar full of peanut M&Ms....anytime I have that crave I grab a handful, then the urge seems to pass.... |
