Food brought me some tears... "Food" the sound of the word is not so inspirational.... but anyway... So I am in NYC with Haruka. We came here for a vacation... It was kinda a soul searching moment for me. I get to hang out with Haruka all day with no agenda... for Wed-Sat... so that is what we have been doing for last couple days. On Wednesday, I decided to have Ramen Noodle... near the Times Square at "Sapporo Ramen"... It was a little too salty..(well because I ordered salty flavor..) I was thinking about people working in NYC restaurant.. I never want to work in restaurant.. but these people had so much passion to their work and their smile was just great... One specific chef was being who he is and really shinning... with what he does for living. Maybe Ramen wasn't the best quality, but it was the best of all Ramen I have had in last few years... Yesterday.. I decided to treat myself... and went to Sushi restaurant near Times Square (again) called "Sushidan." I had Sashimi (like sushi but without rice.) I go to Japanese restaurant often, but this one was just so amazing... It brought me some childhood memory.. I ended up getting some dessert as well.. Tea even tasted so much better. I have been in US for 12 years now and haven't been home for 8 years.. I enjoy Japanese food, but these two restaurants really touched my heart... I love food.. and enjoy eating.. Maybe I am a little sensitive right now.. but I got more than what I asked for from these dinner.. Have you had those moments that food brought you some tears? |
I'm glad you had some pleasant memories :) Some of my best childhood memories involve eating my Mamaw's cooking. |
I am so happy you are finding some peace in NYC. You sound so much better on the phone than you did a week ago. Just be careful when falling asleep in Central Park! LOL You know me a worry about those things! I don't cook much but when I make something my Mom use to make like Yorkshire pudding I think of her (RIP) and how much I miss her. |
Aww....I know what you mean. I was just in Vancouver, B.C couple weeks ago for my wedding. There were so many good food restaurants there...made me miss my "Home - Hong Kong" so much!!! Especially I was there with my family...I miss being with them.... |
Since I was born and raised in the good ol USA, I never had family overseas to get homesick for, but I know what you mean. My grandparents raised me and I can get teary eyed smelling home made bisquits and bread. My grandmother never bought bread, she made it all the time, rolls too. |
Michiko, I'm sorry you're homesick and I'm glad you're finding a peace around you. Right after my grandma died (when I was 8) my dad started making her macaroni and meat (macaroni noodles, eat, and tomato), and the first couple times we had it I wouldn't eat it and I did cry. |
