Not yorkie but pigeon related Ok i know this is so far away from yorkies as you get but i have 3 pet pigeons and bubbles layed to eggs and she has an adopted egg too (so 3 in total she is sitting on) well mum looked out the window bout an hr ago and saw a shell on the floor not sure if one had hatched or they had thrown it out the nest we went to investigate and low and behold the adopted egg has hatched and is sitting there quite comfy under its new mummy, It is the smallest bundle of yellow fluff i have ever seen!!! lets hope bubbles is a good mum and it feeds ok otherwise i will have to be nurse made to baby every 2 hrs through the day and night!!! So we are holding or breath on baby being ok and hope the others that are her babies hatch ok. |
Yay! I want to see pictures...I have never ever seen a baby pigeon. How do pet mama pigeons feed babies anyway? |
How Neat!:D I am so excited for you, best wishes- I hope everything turns out well. |

Lol thanks guys the little yellow ball of fluff is another baby pigeon and pictures will be along as soon as bubbles stops attacking me for going near her, when we first saw the baby i had my head in the house thing so i could move her to look and she flew straight at me to get me out so i might sit in there for little while and wait for them to do the change over so i can grab a pic but i might need a peck proof suit!!! she is so protective for those of you that have been in contact with geese when they have babies and how protective they are bubbles is a smaller version of that LOL x x x Oh and yes they do regurgatate to feed them but that you wont see me doing!!! |
4 Attachment(s) Ok heres some pics i hope you guys appreciate this i had to get both of them off the nest specially to get these snaps you try crossing a pigeon whos a new mum!!! right pic no 1 is daddy (Frosty) Pic no 2 is daddy at front and mummy at back Pic no 3 + 4 is baby (literally hrs old) and eggs enjoy x x x |
Oh my....he has a face only a mother could love doesn't he? I bet he gets fuzzy and cuter ....say in 3 -4 days....so I'll need to see some more pictures, okay??? :D I have seen thousands of pigeons, but never a baby one. Surprised he has yellow fluff... |
Awww, your little yellow fluffball looks almost like he has fur, not feathers. So sweet:). |
Lol you guys have seriously never seen a baby pigeon lol, we was suprised it turned out all yellow as we thought it was a wood pigeon coz the egg was slightly bigger oh how wrong were we as far as we are aware because it is all yellow with no apparent pigementation sprog will infact be white but is def still a pigeon!!! And it is fur/fluff at the mo like a duckling before the feathers come through! very soft to touch not that i have touched this particular baby, but have hand reared quite a few baby birds along the way but this is a complete first for me coz we have only started having the pigeons since last year (after hand rearing mum) and this little sprog is our first baby! Feel free to give sprog a name coz i dont suppose it will like keep being called sprog but it has to be universal coz we wont know what the sex of it is until its 6 months+ And i will keep you updated with pics along the way providing mum doesnt eat us first x x x x |
If you can't tell the sex....I guess the name should be It. I'm kidding. :D How bout...Izzy? I haven't ever seen domesticated pigeons only wild ones.... PS How do you tell the sex?? |
Lol you wait to see if it lays an egg!!!! thats how we knew bubbles was female x x x |

OK bad news struck the household this morning, i went to check on the baby as it has been a few days, and baby pigeon is missing. We have no idea what happened or where it is but its safe to say little guy is with the pigeons in the sky:( There is no trace of it at all like it was never there!!! no blood, fluff nothing!!!! so im sitting here a little deflated and all i want to do is cry!! you maybe thinking its just a baby bird but this was our first baby. i am sooooo gutted  |
Sorry the baby is missing. Since the pigeon is not domesticated often in the US I am a little confused. It appeared that the pigeons were in a cage from your pictures. Were they inside or outside? Did you just provide a cage outside for them to nest? I saw some shavings and millet. It sounds like the pigeons come and go as they please?? If so that is really neat. Also would explain the orphaned egg:scratchhe |

that is neat. I just had the old carrier pigeon thing going on in my head and thought they come and go as they please..lol Of course I have only had a half of a cup of coffee too...lololol:D Thanks for the explanation. |

WHAT?!?!? Oh no...birdnapped. :( I'm sorry. I guess another bird couldn't get inside the cage? I know wild birds will rob other nests and eat the babies. :( |
Nope the only thing small enough to get in is a mouse so we are now sitting here trying to figure out the best way to house them indoors while they have babies. So baby Izzy is just one of those things now i guess but at least we got pics and we can learn from little Izzy's demise and hope the other 2 will be safe. |
Maybe you could put out a baited mouse trap and catch him before the others hatch. I would think readily accessible food would appeal to him more than venturing inside the pigeon coop. Stupid mouse. |
I'm so sorry your little one has dissappeared. That's so sad:(. Is is possible it could have wiggeled itself to the edge and fallen out? |
right we have it figured out the pigeons are coming in and the mouse trap is going into the nest so when he comes back hoping the other eggs have hatched we will get it! Dont like killing animals but we are in a residential area and they are too smart for a humane trap. and there is no way at 2 days old the baby could have gotton out of the nest the ledge is too high (the nest is a converted dog kennel) we have looked at it fro all possible angles and the only thing it could be is a mouse. Thank you all for your kind words its much appreciated x x x |
