Making a Pillow - have a question!
 
So whats the best filler to stuff in a pillow, so i am able to wash it? Its going to be for my babies (who else???) so i need to be able to wash it. (it'll be more of a bed for them)

Type and brand name pls :) I'm going to MaryMaxums after work so hopefully they will have something......

Anyone know?

I usually just use polyfill, I'm sorry I can't remember the name brand! I get the hypo-allergenic kind though! :)

Good luck with your pillow and post pictures when you're done! :D

The best to use is Soft Touch Poly-fil Supreme, made by Fairfield. It is 100 percent polyester (very washable) and Non-Alergenic. It is also made in the USA! I am sure you will find it at Walmart. It comes in eight ounce bags as well as larger ones, but I don't know how easy the large ones are to find.

When you are stuffing your pillow, feel the bunches of polyfil with your hands. If there are some areas that seen denser than others, pull those areas apart.

I am sure you will love this filler and that your babies will, too.

How are you putting this pillow together? Completely sewing the seams closed....or by tying? If you're tying I'd purchase a bed pillow to place inside so you can remove it for washing. Fiber fill tends to bunch all up if you wash it.

The polyfil that I recommended above never bunches up. It makes a supremely nice pillow. The pillows that I made with it were favorites of my grandchildren and they even fought over who was going to get to use them while they were here.

There are some other polyfils that are problematic. This one is not.

Cluster Stuff by Morning Glory was also suggested as never bunching up. Anyone familiar with that?

This won't bunch up if I throw it in the wash? ALOT? I have babies who tend to pee on the beds :rolleyes:

I make all my beds with a muslin or broadcloth cover with polyfill inside. And then I make a separate slip cover with a zipper or buttons in nice material. My beds last longer this way because I don't wash the whole bed every week. I wash the cover one week and then I wash the whole thing the next week. Also, if the bed insert wears out before the slip cover I just make a new bed insert.

Breny, depending upon how thick you want the pillows... have you thought of Nufoam? It is a better alternative to foam cushions, NU-FoamŪ Densified Batting is a made of compressed layers of polyester fiber. It is very washable and if you use the thinner type, it dries fairly quidkly.
