Lapband? Anyone have any feedback?? Also called the gastric band I believe. I'm just starting to research it and I was wondering if any of you ladies have had any experiences with it. I'm only 22 and I would really like to loose at least 50 pounds. I've been heavy pretty much since junior high, but it has gotten out of control over the past few years. I have read that you need to be at least 100 pounds overwieght, and then I've seen 50. So which is it? lol So if anyone has any experiences with this, I would really like to hear about it!! If you're not comfortable posting on here, please feel free to pm me!! Thanks! ;) |
Anyone?? |
One of the guys a work just did it. You have to be 100 or more lbs over weight from what he told me. You go through seeing a nutritionist and they put you on a diet to see if it works...sometimes you need that structure. If that doesn't then they look into counseling you for the procedure. It takes several months to get it approved. Not a quick fix at all and not all insurances will cover the procedure in it's entirety. I know we have good insurance and mario had to pay $2500 out of pocket. He was very heavy and tried his best to get back down to a normal weight. He stayed out two weeks post surgery then came back to work. He has lost 40 lbs but he is very sick and felt weak so he is back on disability. |

Oh wow, thanks for the info. That doesn't sound very fun at all. I think I just need to get over it and loose the weight on my own. If I were to loose 50 pounds, I would be at a very healthy weight for me. I would be at my weight when I was in highschool and played softball and was able to run 4 miles no problem, lol. I really don't have that much to loose compared to some I suppose. |

I think Mario told me it took a total of 8 months to get himself scheduled for it. He had to work with the dietitian and they charted what he ate and watched how he lost weight. They had him in the gym on a slow go of exercise. For him it didn't do a dang thing because he was pretty heavy..in excess of 250lbs. Believe me maybe see a dietitian (your insurance will pay for that and you will only need a co-pay). It will give you a head start on revamping your eating habits and definitely show you what you can cut to lose weight. The biggest thing to cut is Soda and Sugars. |
One of my friends is having that surgery in two weeks. She did a lot of research and went to seminars about it. She is ready, but she has to control her diabetes first by eating green veggies only and no carbs at all. She can't wait for that day. |
