This itching is driving me crazy! Thursday I thought I would tackle some weds at the fence line.... there where quite a bit because it's around a lot of pines trees. I don't usually venture over there because I have enough to do already without worrying about prettying up the pines....... A couple of hours later I get a couple of itchy spots on my arm, I think, "Darn mosquitos!..That's what I get for going in the weeds!".....As the night progresses I'm getting more itchies......I see that there is no longer two little spots but my arm is covered in little pustules from elbow to finger tips!!!....It was poison ivy, not weeds!!....I have NEVER had this in my life!....When I was a kid we where always in the weeds and I would never get anything ...til now!... I have now transferred it to my neck and my ankle!....So you see,this itching is driving me crazy!! |
Poison oak and/or ivy can really make you miserable! You may want to take some Benadryl and put Calimine (sp) lotion on there...Hope you are better soon!!! |

My Dad is allergic. He has gotten a few really bad reactions to poison ivy in his time. He goes to the dr and they give him a shot of some sort. I'm sure you have already thought of taking benedryl for the itching. Good luck hun. |

My husband is alergic also, the Dr. gave him Prednizone shen he got into it. He said it really helped. You might want to see your Dr. Good luck...and keep your hands off of it you don't spread it. |
My daughter has really bad reactions to poison ivy/oak/sumac. All she has to do is walk near it and she reacts to it. We tired everything for her...she even gets hives in her mouth and nose and other internal areas:eek:.....we use Aveeno oatmeal baths and she has to go get prednisone to get relief. The benedryl may help and also the Benadryl ointments. Good Luck!!! |
Add Me In I'm also a sufferer of contact dermatitis. That's what doctors call the rash if they can't figure out what caused it---so much scratching obliterates the acutal rash. At one time, the doctor called it ezcema. Right now, she's not sure because she only sees the results of the itch and no rash. I've gotten serious cases of it when one eye became swollen and half-shut. Whenever the rash goes to the face, get to the doctor for a shot of cortisone and a round of prednisone. I always put that off as long as possible because I don't like steroids. Most of the time, I can't even tell what caused the rash because I'm so careful when I'm gardening. Allergy shots weren't helpful enough to continue treatment. The most satisfactory home treatment has to be two-fold: first to relieve the itching (a cortisone product) and second to dry the oozing (a calamine productor baking soda-water solution). I'm not sure in which category oatmeal baths fit. Hope everyone is feeling better soon! PS-By some strange coincidence, our dog is one of those itchy-scratchy guys, too.
