What a great 4th of July! My husband and I returned home from a long day of working on our other house and thought we were going to spend a quiet night at home with the fids for the 4th. Well...it didn't quite work that way but it was so much better! Things got busy just before dusk...our neighbors started heading for their boat docks, company was arriving by boat, jet ski and car and we heard drums...yes, drums. Someone directly across the lake from us hired a live band and man were they good. They did music from AC/DC to Johnny Cash and they even did the Hokey Pokey and got the kids involved! There were hundreds of boats on the lake heading for the park to watch the fireworks and people walking to the park from everywhere around. There were no less than 8 fireworks displays around the lake and we sat on our front deck and watched them all...what a show! When everything started winding down there was a steady stream of boats floating home and as they went by ever so slowly all you could see were the little red, green and white navigation lights in the dark and the band played on. Yes...it was a fantastic electric rendition of the Star Spangled Banner for all to hear...with fireworks still lighting the night sky and the boats glowing as they lit up the night, with the music in the background...it was almost surreal and enough to give you goosebumps. I looked to the side of our house and saw my flag lit up in the darkness and I said a little prayer of Thanks to those who made and continue to make our freedom possible...it was a great night! I hope yours was great too..... |
Wow, you gave me goosebumps just reading that! I wish you had some pics! That sounds like a truely wonderful night to enjoy! I can visualize it all in my head! Thanks! :) |
It was wonderful! I wanted to take pictures but I don't do so well with fireworks and night shots. Actually, the lake is full of activity for the 4th of July. They have a triathalon where they run around the lake, swim across and bike ride...it's great to watch the kids and older people complete their portion and they go right in front of our house. They also have the Music and Arts festival in the park that's about a half block away...they have tons of great food, demonstrations and vendors set up. They did fireworks Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights so it was a great 4th of July weekend for us. The great part is...our fids aren't bothered by the fireworks at all  |
Wow! So you already have holiday festivities planned every year... sounds like a fun time! I would have love to have something like that going on around my house! Where I could have a full day and not have to go far for it! Lucky you!!! My furbutts are not afraid of the fireworks either... thankfully huh? :) |
Yes, our weekend can all be spent right outside our front door if we choose to with no real planning at all...all we need is family for a BBQ and to take the boat out if the traffic isn't too heavy or just to hang out on the dock for the afternoon. It's great here in the spring and summer but winter is awful so we're planning to move back to Florida soon...yesss! |
what city/state do you live in right now? I am in New England, so I totally understand 'horrible winters'. |
Sounds like a great 4th!! |
