Sunburn!

My mom, me, my sister, my 14 yr old niece and one of her friends all went to the beach yesterday.

I put on sunscreen.. well sorta. I wasn't really paying attention to make sure I covered every part of my body and as a result my nose, one shoulder blade, a ring around my belly button and the lower part of my back are burned.

I didn't put sunscreen on my legs, but they didn't get burned..guess my big butt gave them shade.

Any tips on how to make it feel better? Or keep it from peeling?

This may sound crazy but the best thing for sunburn is Vanilla Extract -- the pure one not the artificial.

I've never heard that. We don't have any pure here.. only the artificial. I'll have to pick up some pure tomorrow and try it.

This is one topic I know lots about being very white.

There are many things you can do, they main objective is to keep it hydrated.

The best thing you can do is to lather some aloe vera very generously on all the spots and sitting near a fan or AC vents. This will help soothe pain and prevent you from peeling.

Another alternative is to grab a towel and dip it in milk and place it on the places that are burned for 20 minutes.

Another thing that really helps is to fill a bath tub with water and grab like 10-20 black tea bags and put them in there and sulk your body there for 20 minutes. If this is too much you can make a pot of tea (cold) and just put a towel in it and place it on the spots that are burned. This will stain the towel.

Another alternative is to take a shower with baking soda.

Make sure to drink plenty of water because the main reason your skin peels is because it dehydrates.

As disgusting as this sounds but it really works you rub apple cider vinegar on the burned spots. The smell goes away quickly.

Also, you can mix lemon with cold water and sponge it onto the skin. This will help prevent blistering and peeling.

All these are great remedies with things that you have in your home. I hope this helps. The main trick is to keep the skin cool so that it heels without peeling.

some tips I have are chilled aloe put the bottle in fridg and it feels cool when spayed or put on. I leave the spray bottle in the fridg for the kids and I. vinegar is nice to take the sting out when you are burnt.Any kind of lotion or they make after the sun lotion just to help not peel.Hope this helps! anyways keep on protecting your skin!!

ok, something my mom would use on us as kids was Noxema! you know, that face cream in the dark blue tub.. you smear it on, and go to bed-sure you smell but the next morning the sunburn is GONE! its weird lol..

oh and lots of aloe that is kept in the fridge.. you can buy it with lidocaine, which numbs the skin a little if you are in alot of pain.

Ange 07-04-2008 07:36 AM

Solarcaine!

Solarcaine! You can buy it at most any drugstore/Wal Mart/etc.
You spray it on and it works like a dream!
*back in my youth I thought it would be big fun to mix baby oil & iodine and spend the day sunbathing at the lake.
BIG mistake. Huge. I was lobster red all over, shivering,in extreme pain. I tried aloe, nozema, vinegar baths and what helped the most was Solarcaine.

I get sunburned and usually what feels best is to put cold aloe gel on it. One time though on a cruise i got a really bad sunburn and i had an appt. at the spa in the cruise, i had to cancel my massage and instead they put milk and coconut all over my body and wrapped me up, i felt much better after that.

We always use aloe too. Make sure it is pure aloe- most have alcohol in it and you don't want that. Other than that ibuprophen helps quite a bit. Oatmeal baths are also good, just don't use hot water.

I've always heard the very best thing is vinegar. I've never tried it because I don't want to smell like a salad but you might want to do a search on it.
