animal control!?! please help! ugh! i'm sooo sick to my stomach right now that im shaking. my father in law has an outdoor cat... his way of caring for her is putting food and water on the porch. this cat has had more then 6 liters of kittens and just recently had another. One of her previous liters had two females who both got pregnant, one is still pregnant the other had 3 and lost 2... now the original cat had 5 more kittens! my mom took one, and two others went to another home soo there are still 2 at his house. i was just over there and these kitttens were still nursing (they are like 8 weeks old) they had crusted green stuff under there eyes, one can't open on of his eyes... the mommy is SOOOOO skinny she looks like she could die any second!! i don't know what to do! i can't just turn my head this HAS to stop!! hubby doesn't want to look at them because he doesn't know what to do. i furiously told him i'm thinking of calling SOMEONE to investegate and he ignored me. he doesn't want his dad to get in trouble and as much as i HATE this situation i don't want his dad to hate me either. oh myyy what do i do?!!? he lives in the middle of nowhere so if i do call someone he might find out it was me because it isn't like he has neighboors or anything that could see it. PLEASE I KNOW YOU ARE ALL ANIMAL LOVERS LIKE ME WHAT DO I DO?!?!? |
I feel for you. I know our local Humane League has a reduced spay & neuter clinic every Friday. I know you said your Dad lives out in the middle of nowhere, but is there a Humane League/Shelter somewhere in his area? If so, maybe you could check with them to see if they have something like that. The only thing is, you'd have to catch them and crate them to take them there. Poor kitty. She's had so many litters of kittens that her body is not able to bounce back from all the nursing that she's doing. :( Good Luck and let us know what happens. :goodluck: |

thanks i hope it works out :( there is a shelter near by my house and i would be MORE then willing to drive them out there. the kittens are verrry friendly they want to be loved :(:( |
Can you offer to take some of them and get them spayed and vet care? Maybe he would pay if you took them. I would tell him you found homes for some of them and I would take all the kittens and any others I could get and take them to the local shelter or to homes if you find any. In Virginia the owner has to provide needed vet care and shelter. All cats must have rabies shots if they are 4 months old. I am not sure where you are and what your laws are but they are probably similiar. If a mailman, delivery man or anyone else has been there he might think they called and complained, if you call Animal Control. Good luck I hope you can find a way to help these cats. |

Can you offer to split the cost of they spay with him? Maybe if you took them in to be spayed he will at least have some compassion and pay, especially if it is only $25. I wish you luck. |
Its late and I am tired and I guess I'm in a grumpy mood but I would not care what he thought. For that animal to be treated like that plus the poor kittens it unhumane.... IMO he would have the same pants to get glad in. Good luck and please help those poor cats. |
That is a very bad situation. (The fact that one of my pet peeves is 'outdoor cats' doesn't help either.) I don't know what to tell you--I have the same problem w/ my inlaws, only worse--Pitbulls.:( In short, they have a male and female and for them that was all that was needed to breed the two--and you can CLEARLY tell that all else aside, looks alone, these are not two dogs that should be bred, period. The female whelps where and whenever. I *think* they have only bred them once, but once is too many! They keep the dogs chained up...they do have dog houses, but they pretty much have no grass, only mud. You can see flies buzzing around them all the time. They get fed whatever table scraps were left. It's really sad. Luckily (if you want to look at it that way) there are LOTS of things my inlaws do that neither hubby or I agree with and we rarely go to their house (I think the last time was Christmas), so I don't have to see it much. I'm just dreading for the day when one of them escapes and hurts someone. I know it's coming. (Another reason why I and MY CHILD don't frequent their abode.) I thought about reporting them, but to who? Their neighbor has had animal control called on him several times for complaints about his dogs (which my BIL tells me he fights and sells for fighting:() and there have been authorities to their house before, so the officials who could do something about it are well aware of the situation already. So in a nutshell, I completely sympathize with your situation. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. I would flat out refuse to visit them. Explain to hubby how strongly you feel about the situation and that avoiding the option you choose instead of reporting them. |
