Help-Been using eye ceam with siicone!!!:eek: I have been using eye primer from sephora that has dimethicone silicone. I've used it for 9 mos. Now I'm having problems with itchy irritated eyes. I'm very concerned - Does anyone know long term affects from this. It's actually a face primer but the sales girl told me to use it around my eyes so my eye shadows would go on smoother. Today I went looking for something different because of problems I was having and they said "OH NO!!! Never use anything product with silicone around the eye area :confused::confused: BUT THEY WERE THE ONES WHO TOLD ME TO DO IT GRRRRRR HELP!!! |
umm not seeing where the Yorkie is in all this?!?! lol! ;) You might want to post this again in the Off Topic section :) I don't wear make-up, I'm just a simple girl ;) so I'm certainly no help, lol! |

LOL LOL LOL That's funny - Thanks for the laugh I needed it :D |
Gosh - No one even cared :( i know I posted in wrong forum. But was hoping someone would know something regarding silicone in eyes. 55 views no replies how sad. I feel stupid now - I shouldn't have bothered Oh Well.... |
I googled it and couldn't find anything saying you couldn't use a silicone based primer around your eyes. In fact I even found this: "The most important part of any eye make-up routine is to get the base right. Neutralise any redness (especially near the lashes) with a skin-coloured base. Around the eye, foundation tends to slip so choose a specialist primer containing a bit of silicone, which will 'hold' any products you apply on top" |

Recopy your post and put it in the Off Topic section. Bet you will get some posting in there :) A lot of posts have sometimes tons of reviews, and still only 4 or 5 posts. Too many people here like to look and not post. Kid of doesn't make sense to me, lol! If your going to take time to look at a post and read it, why not just take 30 more seconds to reply to it!!!!:p That's what I try to do :) No time should go wasted if you ask me, lol!:D |
I'm not sure what would be causing you to just now be irritated with it. If it hadn't just happened I'd say you were allergic to it but because you've used it for 9 months I'm completely stumped! I've heard tons of good reviews from different make-up forums and communities on Livejournal so I'm going to recommend it to you: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion You can check out the ingredients it has by going here: Primer Potion Ingredients Just click on the ingredients tab if it doesn't automatically come up! Hope this helps some! |
Thanks for taking time to respond. I actually went to my optometrist and he said to stop using it they did eye wash then prescribed eye drops for irritation. I asked him same thing why did I just start with irritation if I've been using for 9 mos. He said I probably was irritated and didn't really notice it because it wasn't as bad as now. |
You probably didn't get many responses because nobody knew the answer (and I don't either.:p) Once your eyes are back to normal I second Emilyann's suggestion of Urban Decay (providing it isn't silicone based)- I've heard great things about it as well!:) Hope you feel better. |
I just checked and there is dimethicone in the Urban Decay primer. I think the Sephora girl who told you to never use silicone around your eyes was confused since they sell the Urban Decay primer.:p You can build up sensitivity to ingredients over time. I have heard of people who can't use silicone in hair products due to scalp sensitivity so who knows. |
I never caught this the first time around. I know alot about the eyeballs (unfortunately) and could have saved you some trouble. I had a similar experience with smashbox/bare minerals mix up. Anyway after you are done with your prescription eye drops if you ever start having problems with your eyes being irritated again try Systane eye drops. Its one of the best (the best according to my retina specialist) eye drop on the market. Its' got a silky feel to it and helps to keep your eyes happy. It's super easy to accidentally irritate your eye with makeup, an applicator, or whatever and just as easy to ignore it. So just be careful with the make up. :D Good luck and I hope your eye balls start feeling better soon!!!!:D |
Guess I have heard about building up an allergy to something over time. I must say, though, old mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow can cause many problems. I always thought that they were to be changed every six months, but my dh came home the other day and said he heard on the radio that it was every 3 months. Just a thought. |

if it's a higher end makeup (like minerals) it doesnt' go bad I didn't even think about the lotion aspect because when I get my primer from smashbox they always tell me to write the date I open it and start using it so it could have been that too. You have a smart DH |
