Listen to the evening I had! I don't know where to start! A couple weeks ago I was over to my parents house and the house next door to them is a 2 story house. On the roof was 2 black dogs just running around! I about freaked when I seen this. My mom said that they (the neighbors) let the window open and let the 2 dogs and a few cats just roam around on the roof! I just could not believe this! I have never seen dogs on a roof like this before. Ok, so let me fast forward... About a week ago my mom calls and tells me that the neighbors have moved out and left the dogs behind. The dogs were going to the bathroom on the roof and inside the house. I call animal control and tell them this story. They come out the next day and check out the house. They tell me that the dogs do not look malnourished and they have food and water. I told him that the neighbors have left and no one is tending to these dogs. So tonight, I get a phone call from my dad and he tells me that he is not seeing any signs of the dogs and he thinks that they may be dead. I go over and look in the windows and you should see this house, it is not fit for a rat to live in! So I tap on the window and I do hear 1 of the dogs bark, but do not hear the other one. So I had talked to the lady who is in charge of our animal shelter earlier this week and she tells me that she is trying to get a search warrant to go into the house. So we call her and tell her that we think one of the dogs may be dead. She get's on the phone with our mayor. So a police officer, animal control cop, the mayor and the lady from the animal shelter comes to this house. The mayor says "I don't care what you have to do, get that door open" Animal control cop is all pissy and does not want to mess with it. he says the dog's are being fed and they should not be breaking into the house. I said, these dogs are not being taken care of, they are over there living in there own feces! He says as long as they have food and water they are fine! I was about to blow my stack with this guy! They wanted to leave and deal with it in the morning. I said if you leave and this dog dies all hell is going to break loose! So they finally get in and get the poor doggie, but the other one is no where to be found (so they say) So on a good note, the poor doggie got out of this environment and was taken away. I just hope that someone finds him a good home. |
Wow! I can't believe that people just move out and leave their pets behind! Thank goodness you were persistent with the authorities, so they finally did something. I hope that the dog finds a wonderful home where he is treated like a King! The County Health Inspector should pay a visit to that home and get a clean-up crew in there, I wouldn't think that it would be healthy for the neighborhood!! |

She says people are coming to the shelter to get food to feed cause they can not afford to feed them anymore. The mayor says he will be making a phone call about this rental house. So hopefully it gets cleaned up. There is no reason why people should let there house go like this, that is just pure laziness! and leaving innocent animals behind is just cruel. |
:( OH my this is so sad! and upseting. |
It's too bad that our economy has gotten to the point where people are losing their homes, jobs, assets......but, it is still no excuse to leave poor innocent animals to fend for themselves. Thank goodness there are people like the OP, that will step in to save lives!! |
That is AWFUL! How sad. :( I hope the other dog didn't escape or something. Or if he did, I hope he's being taken care of. and I'm glad that the other baby is out now! Mad props to you, your parents, the mayor, and the animal shelter lady! Boo on the Animal control guy! |
Wow, thats terrible!! I'm glad you stepped up and got something done. I can't believe that guy said as long as they had food and water they were fine. What a jerk!! And! you said that was the animal control cop? I hope they find that dog a good home. |

how incredibly stupid some people are. Thank you for making a fuss - it sounds like those in control are not a whole lot smarter :( |
It angers me beyond words to here of such irresponsible people. I know times are tough - they are tough all over - but if you can't take care of your 4-legged critters, at least surrender them to a rescue or take them to the animal shelter. Being euthanized would be a better option than slowly starving. It breaks my heart knowing that so many dogs - especially large dogs are being displaced by the current economic crisis. |
That is so horrible. I am so glad your didn't back down and got them to at least get the one out. It is a sad time for this country where people have to do this. I can imagine shelters are getting overcrowded. |
The animal control cop was ticked cause he had to get out of his recliner at 9pm! This is his JOB! He didn't want to be bothered! Thing that pisses me off is, he was out to that house a week ago and he knew perfectly well that those dogs were in there all alone! I was seeing red last night! |

That is just so awful and sad! Good for you for sticking with it and not giving up. You probably saved that poor dog's life. |
