Bug Bites! I am covered in them and it's soooo not attractive! I literally have over 30 bites about the size of a pencil eraser on my neck, back, chest and arms. They like to swarm around your head. For some reason, our area has been having swarms of biting bugs of some sort. Everytime I'm in the yard with the girls, I'm getting bitten and I'm afraid they are too. I purchased $30 of the different oils today to make the bug spray to keep them off of us and the dogs. Poor Misty, our Golden Retreiver's nose looks terrible. We've been putting some pink cream called SWAT on it to keep them off of her nose. Is anyone else having this problem? Hubby asked around at work and there are others that don't live near us that said they are having the same issues. I'm considering calling the county and asking them about spraying. |
No... I am not having those problems, but the mosquitos this year are roughly the size of 747 jets. There are mass amounts of them also! So why do bites on your feet itch more than anywhere else AND only itch when you are laying in bed trying to fall asleep?? UGH Good Luck with the bug problem! I hope the stuff you bought works for you and your babies! :) |
We have never had a problem with fleas, thank goodness, but this year my girls have scratched and scratched. I don't see a flea anywhere. I just bathed them this afternoon and used the Dawn first and no fleas. I think it must be mesquitos. Poor little Kayla has scratched until she had a scab on her little side. Watching them, I even itch. |
I am so very sorry about your biting bug problems. It makes it so very unpleasant to be outside. We have been lucky this year - not much of a problem with the pesky little critters. |
My biggest bug problem this year is with ants. They were in my house on my counter and I had someone come out and spray for them. If i sit out in the gazebo they are in my coke on my legs you name it. We havent had too big of a problem with mosquitos yet though. I have gotten bit a couple of times but I am outside alot so that isnt bad |
These are weird looking bugs. They are small but look like a solid black butterfly, a very teeny tiny butterfly. I just keep finding more bites on me. I have welts all over me and now I'm finding them on my stomach too. None on my legs yet. I'm going to have to take benydryl. I didn't think they itched too bad, but they are starting to kick in now  I hope we can all have a bug free summer! A few ladybugs are OK ;) |
Relief from stings. I ran across this information last week. I don't now if it will help or not, because it is about stings. I went out today to do some weeding in the garden and I was out 5 minutes and got bitten about 30 times and had to go in. I have never seen them this bad. Now I have bites all over and itch terribly. Mine are mosquito bites. I don't know what yours could be. I hate bugs. |

Thanks for all the info :) 30 mosquito bites? Geez, we'll both be in benydryl land tonight! |
 I feel for you! I think bugs are bad everywhere this year...most be all the rain or weather or something. I heard that you can rub a dryer sheet on your clothing, etc. to keep bugs away...I don't know though? |
Could those bugs be what we call Punkies? Some people call them Black Flies. They are bigger than a gnat and look like a tiny fly. They are vicious - and - hungry. They drill holes thru your skin and sometimes they bleed. They like the edges of your face(around your hairline) and the edges of your clothes. They appear before the mosquitoes. They leave when the mosquitoes are in out in force. The first time I got into them I looked like I had the mumps - my neck swelled up so bad it disappeared. My legs were also swollen. Hai Karati (an old men's after shave) works well as a repellant. So does Avon's Skin-So-Soft. My parents had a business near Alex Bay, NY (on a lake) where these bugs were horrible. The aftershave and SSS were in every fisherman's tacklebox. After the bite, use calamine lotion or spray with any cleaning agent like windex, Mr. Clean, etc.(something with alcohol in it). I hope whatever they are, they leave soon. I HATE BITING BUGS - I'm alergic to mosquitoes so I spend the entire summer scratching. |
I feel you with the bug problem. I come in every night, from walking Meeko, with at least one bug bite. I try to stay clear from the grass but, they still get me. I hate it! Thanks for the bee/penny tip though, grandmatoall! That's good to know! |
Thanks for all the great info everyone :) The bugs are still out in force, but I'm more prepared for them. |
OMG...we have the pool in the yard. When I go out in the morning I swear to god there are some bugs in there. I have seen some skeeters that should have to get jobs and pay part of my mortgage. I have to say each year the bug population seems to be getting larger in size and numbers. I am about to buy a bat and put it in the yard in the tree to eat the bugs. |
