Help needed.....soured carpet I was hoping someone might be able to help....hubby spilled coffee on rug which wasnt too bad until I realized it had creamer in it, and the smell started a day or two after it happened. Had been using Petzyme, Odoban with Wet carpet cleaner. Finally put ammonia on it....it took the soured smell milk out, but has left another funky smell which isn't as bad, but still needs something done. There is also now a yellowish stain, which doesnt bother me as bad as the smell, but I really need to get rid of both the stain and smell:(!! This stuff drives me nuts....You are all great with tips....Can anyone give any suggestions?? Thanks! |
Oh, sure, blame everything on poor hubby! I've always had good luck with vinegar and water. It's probably seeped down into the pad, though, so it's tough to get out. I've heard people recommend fabreeze. I just googled and someone recommended baking soda: Baking soda “adsorbs” odors, which means it takes odors from the air. It neutralizes acid-based odors in water. Liberally sprinkle baking soda on the carpet. Let set overnight, or as long as possible (the longer it sets the better it works). Sweep up the larger amounts of baking soda, and vacuum up the rest. (Note that your vacuum cleaner bag will get full and heavy.) Redo the process if you still smell odors you wish to remove. Baking soda works like magic, it sometimes just takes time and making sure you are using enough baking soda. Caution: While damp baking soda works really well for many odors, damp baking soda can also get stuck onto the carpet fibers and be difficult to clean. If you live in a very humid climate you might substitute a light spray of white distilled vinegar for the baking soda. |
Oh I'm lol. That was my exact thought when I typed it...if Jeff reads the post......Blame it on Me!! Thanks for those tips. I have done the baking soda, and the fiber problem of course I'm having, but I think I can remedy that. It does help a lot. Yes vinegar was on my list, and I think someone said alcohol to help kill the bacteria. Once when I had a cat urine problem ugg, I had to use my wet vac on both the front and back of carpet. I was able to pull the carpet up and remove the padding and replace and spray varnish on the hardwood. The spot for the milk is in a harder place to be able to pull it up. Oh I wish I had hardwood all thru the house:cool::rolleyes:! Thanks again. |
