I found a Ferrett When I got home from work today there were two guys walking around with a box. They asked me if I lost a ferret (I live in an apt). I said no and asked why. They had found a ferret and didn't know what to do. They both owned cats and didn't want to bring him in. So now I have a ferret in Epsilon's travel crate! I used to own rats so I have a little water feeder attached to it. I have no idea what to feed the little guy though. He is a total sweetheart and loves people. He looks very well taken care of. I'm going to put up fliers tomorrow to try to find his home. If I don't find his home by tomorrow night, I'm going to take him to the animal shelter in town. I don't know how to take care of a ferret, so I don't want to keep him for too long. I'll keep the fliers up and direct them to the shelter if someone calls. Does anyone know what I can feed him? ...I don't even HAVE that much stuff here... I feel sorry for the little guy! |
Although it's late now (and I'm not sure if you would want to invest any money into it) you can buy ferret food. I'm sure any pet store would have it. We used to have one and I think we used to feed it cat food. ETA: For many years, the common recommendation was to feed premium dry cat or kitten food, but that recommendation is now considered out-of-date. As the science of ferret nutrition improves, there is little doubt that premium ferret diets are the best to feed ferrets. Still, if you are unable to find a good quality ferret food (consider ordering online if nothing else) you may have to settle for cat food. If so, make sure it is a premium diet (e.g. Eukanuba, Innova). Use a kitten food, high in protein, but as your ferret gets a bit older (4 years or so), switch to an adult food. Again, you must check labels, and pick foods with only high quality animal proteins at the top of the ingredient list, and make sure they are high in fat and very low in grains, sugar, and fiber. Avoid generic or "grocery store" brands at all costs, as these are typically very poor for ferrets. Feeding Your Ferret I could be wrong, but I think ferrets are illegal in California. I hope that the animal shelter wouldn't immediately put it to sleep because of this. :( |

Oh my gosh!! Too, too cute! I love ferrets! I think it is idiocy that they are illegal here. But I am not surprised. Lots of idiots here in CA and most of them are in the government. :p |
What a cutie! Maybe you can find a ferret rescue in a different state instead of taking the baby to a humane society. I'm sure they'd be happy to help! |

I had no idea what a farret looked like. Do they have tails? I probably wouldn't even know what that was. I would have thought it was a possum probably. Hope you find the owner! |

Oh he's handsome!!! I love ferrets, I had three. One looked like this little guy, he was found out and about too and earned the name Ferrell. He was awesome. They eat pellets but for ferrets, don't feed him cat food, it's not good for them. Entertain him with a pair of jeans, he'll go in and out of the legs, they can be litter trained but get the corner ones, they back up to poop. Send me a PM if you have any questions or concerns. |
My BFF had ferretts for years, usually 5 at a time, she is down to one that mt friend found and she took him in and named him Lucky. They do make good pets. She feeds Marshalls ferret food. Good luck |

Mr. Ferret update. He IS a boy... I think. No balls, but his "thing" is on his tummy. The pictures make him look whiter than he is... from the flash. But he definitely has a yellow tinge to him. Anyway... my old neighbors legally own ferrets and I was finally able to track them down. She is going to pick up Mr. Ferret this afternoon when she gets out of class. She said she probably won't keep him, but she'll take him to her vet who will make sure he gets adopted out to a good home! I'm so happy now for Mr. Ferret. He is NOT liking Epsilon's travel crate. My neighbor will take him home and he'll get to play with some Ferret friends! Yay for Mr. Ferret! |
me and bf have a ferret named buddha. we got him from a small pet store who got him from marshall farms. to tell the sex, if its a marshall farm ferret, there should be dots tattooed on one of the ears. (two dots: boy, one dot: girl) they eat marshall farms food... buddha doesnt like the little drip water thing... kinda like what youd give to a hampster.. so he drink out of a water bowl. put a pan in a corner of the box.. they back into corner to do their business. you can put some old tshirts in there for the little ferret to sleep in... buddha loves that. lemme know if you have any questions!! |
I wish I could have a ferret! They seem so sweet! Every time I look at Mr. Ferret I'm tempted to keep him! Haha. He actually doesn't mind the drip water thing. He knew exactly what to do with it. I gave him a towel in there, is that fine? |
