autograph quilt I saw the coolest thing at camp last week. one of the campers had a homemade quilt, the squares were about 4 in square, the back was fleece, but the cool thing was that her friends had signed the squares. the fabrics used were light to med shades. they were signed with black sharpie magic marker. it looked really cool. would make a great gift for open house, birthday, or anniversary. people could sign it at the party. it wasn't quilted, i think it was just the pieced together top and fleece back. it would be hard to write on if it was too thick. this would be a great gift for someone going away to college. |
Love the idea, I have to add it to ALL my summer projects |
That is a neat idea. My grandma made me a quilt similar to that when I was in the 4th grade. I took the unsewn blocks to school one day and had each of my classmates sign their individual block. Then my grandma embordered over top of their signiture so their names are sewn into the quilt. She then pieced it together using other fabrics in my school colors. |

Here are some links I found w/ instructions and pictures! I didn't find any out of fleece yet....but I am still looking! http://www.whitesewing.com/PDFs/friendshipquilt.PDF Free quilt pattern - How to make an Autograph quilt |
I've seen it done at a wedding reception. The squares were large enough to leave a good luck wish to the couple. The quilting is done after the squares are autographed. |
When my son got married I swiped all of his concert t-shirts and sewed them together for a quilt. Since he and my daughter-in-law went to all the concerts together they both loved it! |
And oh I just remembered. My mom made me a quilt using scraps of fabric from every dress (I think) she ever made me! And she made me many a dresses believe me. I love looking at it and remembering all of them. |
This is a bit off topic, but it is along the same lines. I had a friend who had a special table cloth that they brought out during the holidays. Everybody who visited during the holidays signed and dated the tablecloth. Some drew small pics or wrote a line or two. They had been using the tablecloth for several years so it was really cool reading it. |
