reporting a website does anyone know how to report a website for "obcene content"/possibly animal abuse? i know you can go to the server but I dont know how to do that.. are there certain rules that need to have been broken? thanks for any help |
Good question...hmmm. I know if it's YouTube or Ebay, etc... you report it to the host of the webpage. But, if this is an individual web page, I would look for any service that supports it. For example, my IP gives me a free webpage to use for personal content such as posting wedding photos, etc... I don't think they'd be happy if I put something like what you described up. The FCC is for television and radio. If this involves animals, maybe the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States). I really have no idea. Good for you though! |
Good for you trying to do something. The only thing I would know to do was find out the server and report it to them. But if the server took it down, the person would more than likely find another server that would allow them to put it up. Unfortuantely on the web pretty much anything goes. |
Tracking domain information Quote:
On the next page you will have a 'verify code' to enter. This is to keep computers from automatically accessing the information. Once you have entered the correct 'verify code' you will be taken to the registrars information regarding ownership of the domain. Most times, you will find it to be private information because it will be registered through a particular company that provides privacy for the actual owner. HOWEVER, if you scroll down to the very bottom of the registrar's information, you will be able to find who hosts the site. You are looking for the Domain Servers and they will be listed as NS1 and NS2 Once you have gained this information, you have to determine if they give two hoots about what is there. Usually they only care if the bill gets paid. BUT...if you go to their domain and look for their TOS (terms of service) agreement, you can usually determine if the site in question is breaking the TOS. If they are, you have a better chance of getting something done. In a lot of cases (and this one in particular) you will find that they are registered in another country and so 'our' laws do not apply to them. |
Thank you for that information. That's very good to know. Sad that it's hosted by another country though, but I guess that's common. |
This site comes up when you do a google on canine neutering, I don't know if my search engine perimeter is set to "nasty" but this site is absolutely repulsive. I wasn't aware that absolutely anything goes. I don't know if the Humane Society could help, I wonder if google could at least drop it from their search engine? By the way, I don't think it's "possible" animal abuse, it's flat out animal abuse. I sure hope something can be done. |

The person and or company that registered the domain is in another country. This doesn't mean the hosting company is. |

The hosting company is fabulous.com |
In there terms of agreement they have to promise not to have content that "(v) Violates any applicable local, state, national or international law or regulation 16.2. Fabulous.com does not condone the use of a Registered Name for or in connection with any Misleading Activity or anyIllegal Activities and reserves the right to report such activities to the relevant legal enforcement agencies if it determines in its sole and absolute discretion that a Registered Name is being used in such manner." Here is a link to fabulous Fabulous[qid]=269 Here is the email for fabulous support: support@fabulous.com I'm not sure if this would be the right place to inform them. Anybody know? |
I'm impressed by your research ability. I would think that would be how you report it unless someone tells you differently. Just click the read receipt when you send it so you have proof they got it. I would go into detail about how you think the site specifically violates those policies and quote those policies. Good job!! |

I just wanted to be clear it was sammiz who figured out the name of the hosting company. I couldn't do that even though she gave the instructions. Gee Judy, it sounds like you might be good at composing a letter, hint hint. I wonder if they were bomborded with e-mails? |
I just want to thank all you guys, especially sammiz, for all of the help.. I think judy would be good at composing a letter as well. being that the host is in canada.. anyone know of any canadian animal cruelty laws? we cant really refer to american laws |
His hosting sites are in the U.S. and in other countries. He does live in the U.S. Well that is what he put when he registered his sites. I did report him the other night, and I'm still working on reporting him to different authorities. |
I would be glad to compose the letter, but we really do need to know the canadian animal cruelty laws. Oh, and I can't bring myself to find out what the website is, much less go to it. Do you think that will hurt my ability to write the letter or can you guys give me enough details through pms? |
